Hi everyone,
When will the madness end?
Breaking news is reporting that at least 33 people are confirmed dead at a tech school, Virginia Tech, in Blacksburg, Virginia. See breaking news online
One or more gunmen with automatic weapons have entered the school and started shooting. One of the gunmen has now been found dead in the basement. Several of the dead are people who jumped from upper windows in an effort to escape.
This is the worst school shooting in US history. The community of Blacksburg is a small community of just over 39,000 people.
I am not one who thinks that guns should be banned, but where is the responsible gun ownership? Who needs automatic weapons for personal use? Why aren't these weapons locked up properly and separated from their ammunition? Why, in so many states, can a person buy virtually any kind of firearm with little or no identification?
These are questions I'm sure will be uppermost in many minds over the next days and perhaps weeks.
Banning firearms completely isn't going to solve or prevent things like this from happening, but creating some reasonable controls would make it a lot less likely. Locked up firearms are much harder to steal, and much less likely to be used without thought for the consequences.
In the mean time, pray for the families involved and who have suffered such a great loss, today. It is a great heartbreak that this kind of thing happens, both for the families of the victims and for the families of the shooters.
God bless,
Dave
