	This painting is so beautiful! And yet, what it depicts is the never ending onslaught of nature against a farm whose dwellers can do little to fight it save, perhaps, drink vodka on a daily basis... Alexei Savrasov - Winter Landscape (oil on canvas, 1871)

	I find it difficult to think of a more beautiful landscape than this one painted by Alexei Savrasov. And yet, with all its beauty, there is a sad melancholy about it. Alexei Savrasov - Thaw. Yaroslavl (oil on canvas, 1874)

	Miguel, These are so very beautiful. His mastery of the reproduction of the dead trees or dead branches is evident. It is so much easier to reproduce trees in leaf and his winter landscapes are wonderful. With all of the variations in height in Peru have you had much experience of snow first hand Miguel. Roger
