	Now here is an anomalous, yet most beautiful, scenery painting in Savrasov's production. And it certainly is the epitome of a romantic, lyrical master work. Alexei Savrasov - Cathedral Square in the Moscow Kremlin at night (oil on canvas, 1878)

It has a desolate, cold nightime feel but the sprinkle of stars, top right, and the halos on what must be icons above the steps are subtle attention details.

	Wow, The fire in woods painting is Very Unusual. I could find a place upon the wall for that one. It may be a sad site but is brilliantly painted. The smoke in the trees and the flames are very realistic. Love them all but particularly the fire one. Roger

	So glad you like them, Roger; all considered, they are more or less my best favorites too and I agree with you on your comments on Fire in Woods. Also, with maybe the exception of the Novodevichy convent (which on the other hand is an exquisite masterpiece as well), they differ from almost all other Savrasov's works. Here is another work of his intermediate to later activity. Not only is it pretty original - it is one of the strangest paintings in Savrasov's production. And below it is another strange, though in my opinion, more conventional work - this one endowed with a rare beauty.
