Spamming is the sending or posting of material that has either not been asked for or, in the case of forums, that is complete off topic.
Regarding posting information in all good will that you think will help someone's business in a forum that has nothing to do with what you are posting: that is still spam.
It is a high calling to want to help others, but it is necessary, polite and ethical to ask the forum owner via PM or email first if they want help.
Some of the forum owners here, for example, do not want the information. They are either already experienced marketers who probably already know about the information, or else are simply not interested. Many of the topics here are not related to business at all.
The fact is, regarding forum posting, blogs, articles, etc., and SEO - the spiders will find them all and adjust rankings accordingly. The more varied the information is that is being posted, the higher the spiders will rank the writer.
Simply posting the exact same information over and over again will actually hurt rankings, so not only is popping into forums and posting off topic information spam, it is also counterproductive.
