Re: What turns you off enough to make you leave a website?

A lot that has already ben mentioned. -Music -Pop up windows on each new page -long videos that autoload -shopping carts that take a long time to load from screeen to screen -sites with long loading graphics -dead links -lots of sales hype -the words free with sudden offers of a discounted price That's all I can think of at the moment.

Hey Linda, That is a great question - and one I am happy to answer. When I visit a website and someone starts talking to me or playing music automatically, I leave. I prefer an invitation to CHOOSE to hear a recorded message or music. Looking forward to reading all the replies!

Hi... Some great feedback here! Definitely something that anyone with a "struggling" site should read. Linda (M) - you make a good point about "sound" playing automatically. Stats show that the majority of internet shoppers shop and surf at work. Somehow, I think having a video or audio clip blast out of the speakers probably won't earn Brownie Points with anyone surfing at work. Know what one of my big turnoffs is? Same old, same old. For example... ... Oh gee - not ANOTHER gift site with the same gifts as every other gift site... ... The same goes for the "same old" salesletters promoting the same old program I've already seen 100 times. ... Same goes for the same old "pull in the whole clickbank catalog" and think it's something new. On the Internet, the whole world is at our fingertips. But - what kind of impression are you making on them? Because you don't get a second chance to make a good first impression. : ) Linda

Hi again Linda, I really think it is important to introduce ourSELVES and let people get to know US before we start telling them what we have to sell. And... I think it is most important to tell them how we can help them rather than how great our product or service is. If we can capture someone's attention and gain their trust - and then tell them how we can help them... I think we have a new friend and customer. You think?

Hi Forumites, On top of everything that has been stated here (some excellent comments), fundamentally there are just TOO many sites - most of which are rubbish. People have to wade through the mire of junk to find anything decent. There's too much porn and too much "join my site and become a millionaire by next Friday" type garbage. The net has become a wasteland of schemers, scammers and exhibitionists. Finding anything decent on the net these days is like looking for that proverbial needle. That's my opinion anyway. Gary
