Hi Cheryl!
I am sorry for coming in so late to this topic. Independence Day means a lot for the Americans and generally for all people in many countries.
We Greeks, inspired by the Americans, started our fights for freedom, ethnic and human rights, and independence.
God created man to be free, to contribute for better and share the goodness of what this earth have to share with us.
The ages of time and history teaches us that those who led us always wanted to control the masses and rule us under their own wisdom, beliefs and religion, amny time in distance from what was good and joyful for humanity. In the age of ages few are the cultures which worked under the wisdom of God and all those disappeared or more or less were destroyed by new power centres and new leaders. We can see this today too.
For you, me, the masses, this was not what we dream of and everytime somebody presses the folks to much the react. Folk is a nice Greek word which derives from
"FΟΧΛΟΣ" [fochlos] meaning revolting people against tyranny, oppression, repression and harassing.
All Independence Days made by the folks, united for a more human world, are to be respected independent from relations and national differences. Those are made to change the status for the majority of the people, to give them more rights and freedom, air to breath and feel the purpose of life.
I wish sence and wisdom to your leaders. To rule your country in a direction taht the millions of Americans support and be happy and proud for what they want to be.
Your friend Georgios
