Hi Lydia, "There are a lot of fish in the sea." That's what we say when someone has been dumped by their partner, or when someone doesn't return their feelings, there are many others to choose from.

Greetings, Linguist JoAnne, welcome to Lingvo Club!

“Everything’s got a moral, if only you can find it”,

Carroll’s particular mix of creativity, fantasy, word play, satire, nonsense, and dry wit have gained him iconic status in popular culture with such memorable characters as Alice herself, the March Hare, the wise Dodo, a mad Hatter, the hookah smoking Blue Caterpillar, and the Cheshire Cat. He is the source of such oft-quoted witticisms, puns and nonsense phrases. “We called him Tortoise because he taught us”, “No good fish goes anywhere without a porpoise”, “She generally gave herself very good advice, (though she very seldom followed it)”, “I can't explain myself, I’m afraid, because I’m not myself, you see”, “The rule is, jam tomorrow and jam yesterday—but never jam today”, “Sentence first, verdict afterwards”, and “Curiouser and curiouser!”

 Thanks for interesing sayings,

to You, JoAnne - this fish, is it nice, isn't?

Have a blessed month, Lydia

Hi Linguist Nick!

Very deep philosophy saying from You

Listen to Russian song about Apostle Andrew and walking on the water

Water Walks, Nautilus Pompilius

((youtube id="EanutlSL4wY"))((/youtube))

I
Apostle Andrew was fishing from the wharf
And the savior was walking on the water
Andrew was getting gudgeons out of the water
And the savior - dead people
Andrew screamed: "I will leave the wharf, if you tell me your secret!"
And the savior answered: "Stay calm, Andrew. There is no secret."

Chorus:
"See, there on the mountain, is a cross.
There is a dozen of soldiers under it.
Go and hang on the cross a little.
And wenn you've had enough, come back
To walk with me on the water."

II
"But teacher, there are horns shimmering
On the soldiers' helmets.
A black crow is circling above the cross.
Explain to me now, spare the fool,
Leave the crucifix for later."
The savior became speechless
And stamped his foot on the water surface:
"You really are a fool!"
And Andrew took his gudgeons and walked home crying.

Chorus

Best wishes!

Lydia

Thank you, Lydia! I like that fish, his face looks like it's all to heavy for him! Here's another one: "Sleep with the fishes." That's a threat, it means someone is going to be thrown into the river, possibly wearing "cement shoes."
