I think this quote is saying, it's better to have some hope than no hope at all. At least that is my take on it. Blessings, Marion

Hi Bo, I see this as Mr Clemens encouraging us to dream......and make plans for ourself.......we may not do it all......but if we don't make some promises to ourself.....we do nothing........ and making a promise to ones self.....not to others may be what he was refering to.......that at least is how I see the quote........ when you don't see it....look at it from another point of view........ Best Wishes, Donna

Hi Bogdan, I hear where your coming from Bogdan but it seems you are one of the exceptions to the rule. Example of what I mean. At the last minute I am given a work project on the day I am to attend my daughter birthday party. I accept the fact that in order for me to accomplish this task it means I will not have the time to make the party. But felling bad for me, Joe Doe promises me he will do a certain part of the task for me. So I plan around that promise, and now having had this task removed from my load I am now able to plan to attend my daughter's birthday party. When low and behold, Joe Doe fails to keep his promise, being responsible and having courage I must take the extra time to complete this task, which in turn causes a whole shift of timeline thus un-ableing me to make my daughters birthday party. So as you can see when he made the promise it not only gave me hope, but several other people too. When he broke it, he remove that hope. No, I am not sifting the blame to him as it was my ultimate responsibility to complete this assignment, but had he told me only that he would try and not promised I may have been better prepared. Sorry but I see no benefit as to his broken promise
