Re: Whats Your Take on Religion??

Hello Thomas,

I was raised as a Catholic and still am at heart, I no longer attend church but God has always been in my heart and always will be for he has given me unconditional love.
I have more or less stayed away from churches because a lot of the people I knew who attended  were nothing more than hypocrites, they left their religion a the church steps on the way out.  God does not judge us by what church, synagogue or temple we attend, but by how we lead our lives.  If we spread love, we get love in return but if you spread evil you reap accordingly.  So many of the churches now a days have their hands in your pockets it is very hard to find a good one.  When you receive a postcard in the mail  from the church with the picture of a finger with a string tied around it saying "did you forget" because you were not able to pay your tithe I think the church is overstepping their bounds. The church I attended as a child was very solemn, you could feel the respect that the people had for God's House when they entered, but now a days it's so much different, the respect I was taught is not there anymore. I realize that time changes but when I enter a church and see people conversing with each other I have a hard time accepting that, and when they talk to me and involve me in their conversations I feel that I am being disrespectful toward God as it is His Home, my Place of Worship, not a place to socialize, the socializing can be done before or after the Mass.  I feel I should respect God's church as I would want my home to be respected.
I  also feel that there is only ONE God regardless of race, color or creed or however you want to refer to Him as, anyone should be allowed to worship Him in his or her own way. We, in this country have the freedom of religion. Some do not believe in God and its okay too it's their choice and I respect that.
There is one thing I am against tho, it's when they keep knocking at my door to teach me their religion after I very nicely tells them I believe in God but not their denomination but please respect my belief as I respect theirs.  It seems that they don't understand that, I even tried telling them that I did not understand English only French and the next day I would have a couple of French speaking people at my door trying the same thing.

God Bless you Prayer Warrior,
Gaby

Thank you Gaby for your openness and honesty, it is sad when a church or its members, no matter who they are or what they preach, to me the Word of God is the seed of his kingdom (Luke8:11), and when we plant it in the hearts of people toda, i will produce exactly the church that Jesus built. I believe and will alwys believe that Jesus is the head of his one body (Ephesians 1:22-23;2:16;4:4), and he promised to sae all of those who are in that one body (Ephesians 5:23).  As a Christian raised in a catholic home i have found my truth of existance. Thats my take on my religion, Jesus came to serve an not to be served. But as we all know that one good turn deserves another.

Hi Thomas,
GOD is REAL.  People are fake.  The is not a single church of any denomination that does not take up a collection every Sunday or Wednesday, or Saturday depending on what day of the week they choose to to honor God.  Money collected is suppose to be used for the benefit of those in need.  However, when a church has a fundraising event to feed the poor, save the children, or some other worthy cause they do not fail to get plenty of advertisement for their special event.  Was there not something in the Bible that stated that you should not shout from the rooftops your good deeds but rather do them quietly?
I am totaly dissapointed with those that profess to being people of God and doing God's work.  Shirley and I have not been to church on a steady basis for over a year.  This is not because we don't want to go, but rather because we do not have the transportation.  As you know, I speak how I feel, do not hold back, and if I hurt people's feeling I truly am sorry about that, however, we are Catholic.  Catholics profess to take care of their own.  Our church is about eight miles away, however there are at least four Catholic Churches within a two mile radius from where we live.  I have contacted every single Catholic Church in our area, explained our situation and asked if anyone would be willing to pick us up on Sunday to take us to church.  Every church responded saying that none of their parishoners were willing to take us to church.  One parishoner lives about four apatments from us in the same apartment complex, proclaims to be a devout Catholic, but does not have time to take us to church.
I have asked for help from my Christian friends so that Shirley can go to Reno.  We even called several Church friends.  Our Catholic friends are not able to help because they have to make payments on their Cadillacs.  (You very seldom see a Catholic driving a Chevy)  Their is a woman that sings in the Church Choir.  Ironically, when Mass is over, she walks across the street to attend services at her church which is Baptist.  As our Catholic friends made excuses of why they could not help, our Baptist friend sent us $35.00 and her blessings.  Churches are not what make religions.  People are.  Those that obediently attend church every Sunday and volunteer to do church work do so for attention, but there are thousands of people that have never stepped into a church in their lives that go out of their way each day to help those in need, they work in soup kitchens, you may find them behind you in line at the grocery store when you come up a dollar or two short and they will hand the difference over to the cashier so you can have your groceries, they smile and open doors for you, and these people do not expect anything in return except for maybe if you come across someone in need that you help them.  So, no matter how big your church is or how many parishoners go to that church, or how much they volunteer theirs services, it does not mean a thing if they do not practice what they preach to others.  Organized religions are in competition with one another to see who can raise the most money for their particular charity, however don't hold your breath if you need their help because it is not coming.  I feel that religions as a whole are becoming obsolete because their are more hypocrits than there are true servants of God.  As you know, each of us is suppose to be serving God, but very few do.
God Bless You
Mike

Oh yes Mike i understand your situation as it was confesed to me before, bu i thank you or bringing it ou to the open like you did,ia also glad to have made a forum for you and anybody else to comment on in the future. If you want i can give you some bible lessons as i have helped some of our own ALP members to read and discuss in there own home bible talks, as a member of God's church a Disciple, Jesus is my teacher and i teach what he teaches, but he also teaches to never stop fellowshipping, you think its easy for me when I see a brother a member of the same body leave because of his or her feelings werent met? Millions. Faith is one thing but really living it and applying it to ones life is harder than it looks my friend. The person who baptised me, taught me the bible and told me to learn by example? He Is No Longer with us because of his own selfish needs but I am still here teaching those same principles as he did to me, one thing to learn Mike if i can is that trusting a fellow human being with your life you have better be prepared to make a mistake, because we are not perfect, the only one who can change is you!!! God remains constant...never changes. God is a forgiver so you must be too my friend.

Hi Thomas,
When I enter a forum such as this I do try to be careful not to leave the wrong impression.  It does not work too well for me.  As an example, if I were on an elevater with only one other person and I broke wind, it would be difficult to turn to the other person and give an accusing stare.  It's not that I haven't done that, but it's still difficult.  All I can do is draw on my own life experiences.  I do forgive as we are all suppose to forgive others.  Prayers are always helpful.  In my past I read several books on theology, plus different versions of the Bible, and found that Catholitism was the main established religion.  All other religions branched off the main trunk of the tree as seperate limbs belonging to the same tree.  Each branch represented different interpretations of the main teachings of the church which was Catholitism.  Paganistic rituals derived from the early teachings of the Main church, and in fact, a truth that many Christians do not know is that a Pentgram (I am not sure if I have spelled that correctly) has been painted over on the main floor of Saint James Bisilica in Vatican City.  I may be wrong about the name of the Bisilica however I am not wrong about the Pentgram.  The Bible has always been called the Book of Mysteries because if you read very carefully each chapter you will find that many passages throughout the bible contradict one another enen to the point that all Apostles witness Jesus being nailed to the cross, yet in one passage you here Timothy confess that he witnessed with his Own eyes Jesus hanging by the neck from a tree, plus there were two people, not just one but two people that were nailed to a cross on Calvary that day with the first name of Jesus.  Let us all forgive those that do tresspass us or those that would seek to do us harm for we are none without sin, nor do any of us have all the right answers.  We each believe in our own way yet we each want all others to foresake that which they know to be true and adopt our beliefs instead.  As long as humans behave in such a manner we will never enter the Kingdom of God.  The message that I failed to get across in my last writing was not that I hated anyone but that when we look in one direction, our salvation will appear from another direction.  No, I am not a true Christian because unlike True Christians I refuse to denounce a person's beliefs because they don't match mine.  If we could love one another as we should love ourselves regarless of the color of their skin, their accents, or their religious rituals, we could learn to love ourselves much better.  The other message that I was trying to convey which was also lost in translation was  the passages they say in essence, as I have never memorized bible verses,  If you should see someone that is hungry, feed them.  If you should see someone without clothes, give them your shirt, and if you see someone without shelter, put a roof over their heads.  Christians especially, would be the first one that would push a homeless person into the streets out of revolt for that person.  65% of those people are American Veterans that lost everything because of their war injuries or not being able to find a decent job once they returned home from serving their country.   So, for those of our Christian friends from other countries that feel that all Americans are rich, we are not, and if we are unfortunete to wind up on the streets the first person that will kick us in the head are the Christians that Preach the word of God.  I'm sorry.  I was on the street.  I was kicked, and when I went to a church to pray, I was KICKED out.  Where is religion going?  If we closed every single Church of all denominations and gave every citizen a Bible to study, within two years we could be working towards World Peace.  Our priests, pasters, Rabbi's, and other Clergy are the ones that entice us to go to war, not those that Truly believe in God's words.
God Bless You

Mike

(P.S.  Yes, I do forgive, however when you have been three days without food, it is Sunday and you see the church does open, and you walk in, sit in the back pew just so that you can hear the word of GOD, you have a church usher poke you and motion for you to follow him, you get to the back of the church and are told to get out because you don't belong here, you can forgive, but how do you forget?  If you DO NOT BELONG IN THE HOUSE OF GOD,  Where, my friend, do you belong?)
