Hi again Alana,
I didn't notice that the company you refer to has a probiotic. I buy all my laundry products and cleaning products from them so by the time I order those I have to limit what else I purchase. I do take their vision supplement in addition to another vision supplement because I have a beginning cataract and beginning macular deneneration in one eye. I also take products from another health company. I will check into the probiotic you mention.

Hi Alana,
I am looking at the list of ingredients in my probiotics.  The one that is seeming to exacerbate my IBS symptom of diarrhea contains:
lactobacillus acidophilus DDS-1; lactobacillus bulgaricus, lactobacillus casei, streptococcus thermophilus, bifodobacterium longum, lactobacillus acidophilus. It also has goat milk electrolyte mineral blend and rice flour.
It does not have the probiotic mentioned in your article.
I wonder if goat milk can cause a problem with those of us with lactose intolerance? Perhaps I am reacting to it.
My other probiotic I haven't taken for awhile contains: l acidophilus. B. longum plus proprietary digestive enzymes (a long list of those). It doesn't contain the probiotic listed in your article either. This is the one that doesn't cause diarrhea, but doesn't seem to prevent it either.
I am eager to try the one mentioned in your article to see if it might help me.  (B. infantis)
Thanks for you information as always!

Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Diet

Hi Donna,

I'm not sure about the goat's milk?  I do know that it is the combination of probiotics in our products that have been allowing it to work for people.  Please let me know, once you've tried them.  I am very curious to know how they will work for you.  I hope they alleviate your IBS symptoms as I know it can be hard when you have to know where a bathroom is at all times, and worry about cramping, etc.

God Speed,

Alana

Hi again Donna,

I tried a number of probiotic formulas. I found that my bowel kills the
strains of bacteria after about 3 or 4 days. I also always had
diarrhea each time. I have a product that has all the known strains
and it didn't help me. Also, I found some of the formulas
had milk products in them. I so love cheese and puddings, I
looked for anything that would help so that I could eat these
foods.

After several years and trying many products, I gave up and
took all foods containing milk and milk products out of my
diet. Even a prescription drug containing lactose brought
back my symptoms. My doctor was puzzled becuase he
told me that there was only a few milligrams of lactose
in the timy pill. So I looked up medications that did not
have lactose in them, and those are the ones I take
now. It took a couple of weeks after removing all
dairy for my symptoms to subside.

What I did find is that I can eat a piece of pumkin pie
if I immediately take two tablespoons of psillium seed
(Metamucil) and a couple of generic Fibercon tablets.
I am able to eat  one thing a week that has
milk in it using this method without too much
discomfort. I always have some indigestion and
some bowel cramps, but they are minor.
It was my family doctor that suggested the
Metamucil after meals.

So now I don't need the immodium anymore
and I continue to use the psylium seed and
Fibercon if I eat in a resturaunt.

I started to use soymilk instead of milk to make
the meals and to eat with cereal in the morning,
but I read the ingredients to make sure there
is no milk in the cereal.

My sister had her gallbladder removed and now
takes an enzyme tablet when she eats to
avoid indigestion. She is not milk intolerant
however. I found that some enzyme tablets
cause me intesinal pain.

My cousin is so alergic to
food that she eats only lamb and rice.
She drinks only water.

I sometimes have flareups to certain foods
and I wrote these down and removed them
from my diet. As long as I don't eat these
I am symptom free.

I hope this information helps you. Often what
works with one person doesnt work with
another. I have no definitive answers
for this particular disease that works on
everyone.

Be assured, I leave no stone
unturned and I have looked at everything
I eat, the ingredients, defineing the
chemicals by looking them up in medical reports
and other files on the internet, and I have
been looking for years. So far I have
not found any single food or chemical
that causes the IBS symptoms for everyone
with the exception of milk.
