 ANGEL'S WINGS

return to gallery

Angel's Wings (Caladium hortulanum, poss. bicolor) is a well-known arum native to the Amazon. Although its leaves are toxic, the plant is cultivated as a house plant of which there are dozens of varieties. In the Amazon it grows wild, having escaped from people's gardens.

Sometimes we share a little of the joy of gardening to celebrate.

Our Angel lady is in the Spotlight this week.  Here is a lovely planter sent her way to celebrate her special week.

Hi Mary,

Thanks for the invite.  Now this is one of my main interest.  I have gardened all of my lil ole life.  My daddy used to have a garden that was about an  acre.  He sure could grow some delisious crops.  I do flower gardening and grow peppers and tomatoes.

There is also another gardeding I love and that is the Garden of Life.  Trying to be good and respectful to others.  Oh, and don't forget to do the same for yourself.

Chat with you later.

Happy Gardening!

Hi Mary, Hi Everyone!

Wow!  I don't know why it took so long for me to get to this forum!  This is wonderful! I have enjoyed every post so far! Gardening is my most favorite thing in the world! It is my stabilizer, my equalizer, my connection to everthing!

My grandparents were farmers, and will I always remember my grandmothers garden....I especially loved the huge grape arbor that shaded the path from the main house to the garden.

My first gardens consisted of indoor experiments when I was a child, that I still grow today for fun! Avocado seeds, (I've been known to have a "grove" growing inside) sweet potatoes, yams. They make beautiful vines and produce little purple or white flowers. The tops of a carrot grows into  wonderful greenery!  And don't forget the top of that pineapple!

If I am in a place that has the window space, I will put all these gems in a jar of water that I have crocheted a hanger around and hang them at different levels.....it is really fun to watch the root system grow too!  Once the roots develop, if you pot them in a container....they will last longer. I have kept a yam vine going for 3 years!

Currently, I am blessed with about 25,000 sq ft of garden! Veggies, herbs and many native plants. Rhododendrons, azaleas, fuchias, hostas, hydrangeas, dahlias, just to name some of what keeps me very busy.  There is also a wonderful singing creek that encircles the whole yard/garden that runs all year round, so I always am hearing a symphony!

In Peace,

Julia

Julia,

Welcome to the quiet, reflective forum of Adlandpro.  Just like you, I have had sweet potatoe vines.  However they are now treating them so it is hard to start a vine.  One year I broke off each shoot put them in water and when rooted, planted them in the garden. I have never had them flower.

I've done the pineapple but it did not last too long. Your idea of turning the garbage into a beautiful plant  is a wonderful contribution to our forum.

Your outdoor garden sounds delightful.  Please come back often and tell us how things are growing.
