Re: Hurt, Humiliation and Human Beings

Hi Beverly! don't knock being obese! Being over 212 pounds myself mostly influenced by the gravitational pull of old age, I only now look in mirrors that stop not too far below my chin! When I was teaching in Vietnam - hardly the most obese country in the world - I was flattered to hear them say that I looked 'like a Boss' - so fat isn't all bad - just a bit of a bugger getting up from the floor or out of chairs! Mind you they did also ask me if I was pregnant on occasions - so it wasn't all flattery! Do I want to be skinny in a country that offers such fine culinary delights, amazing cheeses, excellent wine and other temptations? Nope! As I insist on advising those who tell me to slim down - my tastes are Rabelaisian - live with it - as I do!

Hi Deborah, I seem to have suddenly jumped in on something. Let me just make one small point. I have yet to meet a European who hates Americans or America - so please get that out of your thinking. Yes, there are many that do not not like the current US administration, but we separate that from our warm feeling for Americans. You should hear what we are saying here in France about Chirac - or what the Germans are saying about Merkel, or the English are saying about Blair! We all LOVE our politicians!

Hello Dave! Since I've read all the things said, and followed the actions around (I mean the mobile and the quarel and the consequesnces), I was thinking upon what could I do or say in order to fix the damage already obviously done! I can very well see where the differences are coming from, but its sad to see the lack of capability to accept there are people thinking differently. I live in a very controvesed region, I mean historicaly; Transylvania is a very delicate issue. If you ask a Romanian or a Hungarian, the story will be quite the opposite. You will never manage to get to an agreement on certain issues. But though we live peacefuly together, romanians and hungarians, in the same house, town, city, vilage etc. without any fights! I have told all these only to make you, who read this, that I'm quite aweared about "issues" that has rised here in the community. I think DAVE has said it all! In case of this kind of "Without Solution Subjects" come up, the better is to leave things the way they are because there will never be any acceptance of the other party. I, as an uninvolved spectator, can say that at the same time both parties are right and wrong at the same time. A Conservator or a Liberal may very well live peacefully and even friendly together without ever getting to agree on that specific issue. They are smart never touching the metter! If they do, than everything might be gone with the wind. So, I only support Dave's initiative and post. Just reast, stay cool and prepare yourself of differences of oppinions without solutions, "convicted" to disagreements! ANd everythting is OK, as long as it do not get personal and insulting. We can be friends and a wonderful community for the very fact that we are so different and though so alike, in willing to share our life experiences, habits, customs...philosophy a.s.o. I hope my no. of friends will grow ;-) With friendship, Anamaria
