Re: Multiple Income Streams - Pros and Cons?

Hi Linda, No, I certainly don't believe in focusing on one business. I also don't agree with having too many. One of my 'guru' (how I loathe that word) friends says that you should have four majors and maybe a couple of fun ops too. He is my mentor, and as I value his savvy and teaching ability to point me in the right direction, I've done very well under his guidance. Now I've taken on the role of mentor to others, and while I don't parrot his teachings verbatim, I do advocate multiple income streams. How many refused to join 12Daily Pro? Despite the bombardment of advertising, I didn't join. Did I smell a rat? Not really, it was a gut feeling and I believe you have to learn to trust your intuition when seeking a good earning opportunity, as well as doing your due diligence. Great discussion,

GREAT TOPIC!!!! I think Linda that your original lesson is a good one and applies to lots of things. Learn one thing at a time so as not to overwhelm yourself and get confused. Move gradually, and once one thing is mastered... expand, diversify, keep learning, evolve, develop, grow, etc. NEVER EVER assume that one source of income will see you through life. While this may be true for a few people, it really is only a few. Think about all the big companies. EXAMPLE: Do Mc's just rely on burgers? NO! they constantly try new products and have many other complementary products. BUT... they started with just burgers, they grew through testing and learning and developing a system. Growing and changing with the market is keeping them going, they are in fact proving to be resiliant to a few years of rather bad publicity by creating alternate income streams. Not just burgers, drinks and fries anymore, but salads, fruit muffins, yogurts and here in Oz, even just an apple can be bought at the same time as a cheese burger. Multiple Streams of Income is the way to survive. Linda

Hi Sam, Thanks for your reply. I recommend that you add another business only if it complements or does not compete with your current business. All of my businesses fit into a theme that is personal to me and that is part of my criteria for choosing. Also, as I wrote in my first post for this thread, I take one business at a time and learn it, get it going as automatically as possible, and only then move on to find another. Presently, I am at my limit and very happy with what I am doing, so I am not adding anything new. You will find what is best for you!

Hi Linda, You said the magic word - "residual" - which is certainly what I am creating. I have companies that still send me checks for retail sales of customers I established years ago. Labor intensive is not what I am looking for, so any business that I choose has to have the potential of creating residual income WHILE I SLEEP. We can do that with network marketing, affiliate marketing and other online programs that create income based on the efforts of team members. Some of my "other thoughts" ... Look for businesses where you can do the work once and get paid forever. For example, in network marketing, when you build a loyal team of members and train them to duplicate the efforts of yourself and the leadership of the company, you are empowering them forever to create their own income and... You are also creating residual income for yourself WHILE YOU SLEEP. I do believe in supporting and training new team members until they are ready to fly on their own - and even then I believe in being available to help when needed. When our motives are sincere, and we are willing to do what it takes, we will be successful. The only way to lose is to quit, right? So, with multiple streams of income, even if one company goes belly up, we still have other sources of income, and now we can look for another. Things change fast, especially on the internet, and new opportunities are cropping up all the time. When someone calls me pitching their business, I always listen. I don't assume I know I am not interested. It could be something new that I will like. I follow my gut (which is really my divine inspiration). And many times when I am sincere and positive about my current business, the person who is calling me will ask what I am doing because he can hear my confidence. A little aside here... I taught dance for 10 years - country line dance and two step, etc. - and I absolutely love it. Someone once told me when I stepped off the dance floor that "confidence is very sexy." I had confidence on the dance floor and it was very attractive. The same thing applies to our business. When we have confidence in it, we don't have to boast or use hype. Our confidence shines through - and here is the most important part... If we project our confidence and we know the characteristics of the people we want to join our team... THEY WILL BE ATTRACTED TO US.
