Roger and friends, we have arrived at William Turner's last decade and while the dichotomy between peace and drama is still present in his work, it is somewhat moderate with the quality still intact. In this post, however, I am showing two highly contrasting paintings although for presentation reasons, I will reverse the order in which they usually occur and will instead show the peaceful one on top.
William Turner - Dawn After the Wreck (watercolour, gouache and rubbing out on paper, c.1841) William Turner - Snow Storm: SteamBoat off a Harbour's Mouth Making Signals in Shallow Water, and Going by the Lead. The Author was in this Storm on the Night the Ariel Left Harwich (oil on canvas, c.1842)
