I don't think that anyone is saying that Internet Marketing is not for you. What is being said is that you need to do your due diligence before you make any sort of leap into whatever you decide to do.
Part of the overall problem, as I see it, are the two words, "Internet Marketing".
Everyone has a different thought on what exactly they are referring to when using that term. The first thing that needs to be established is what do they mean to you.
A lot of people start out trying to sell various Internet Marketing programs while they themselves have no knowledge or understanding of the area of expertise. Everything comes down to what you will attempt to sell and to who. There are a number of things that enter into the equation that puts buyers at a website making a purchase, you just need to learn and understand those. You already seem to understand how it is done in the Brick and Mortar world is different than how it it is accomplished on-line.
In trying to maintain open dialouge on the subject or on your own particular direction, perhaps if you were to look at discussing what you are considering on marketing for yourself, then more specific topical information could be discussed.
There are two ways to start out when attempting to conduct business on-line, the right way and the wrong way. Making any serious errors and heading out on the wrong path can be costly financially and can end up ruining your credability; making it difficult, if not impossible to recover and regain peoples trust or any investment.
