RE: SOUND OFF ON ANY TOPIC YOU WANT TO.

Hi Mark,

You're right about passion in what people do. I know some people who are very good at marketing but would rather work on their car all weekend, I know how to make handmade items but when people request customized jewelry, I'd rather do internet marketing, even if I need the money, the thought of making jewelry to order doesn't light my fire. I only want to make the stuff I want to make, when I want to make it. It all depends on what fuels our fire. We're all good at a lot of different things, but only one or two things really makes us jump out of bed and put full energy into our goals.

I've been interested in marketing since I was in my 20's studying all the mail-order publications and reading everything written by the "old guys"...people don't realize that the same rules hold true online, it all started in the "dinosaur age" of print advertising, and if online marketers are just dabbling and clicking, that's not marketing, we need to constantly study businesses, be unique in our advertising (the main mistake online is all affiliates using the same ads provided by the companies) and also gain name-recognition, and that doesn't come from clicking all day, people need to network and have a photo and put our name on everything.

It's not all about MLM either, it's about being there consistently...online...where people see you every day...and being knowledgeable in what we're promoting, and being unique and continuing to stay unique and recognizable and easy to find.

Mike, I sincerely hope this is received in the spirit it is given. I have read many of your posts and you almost always come across with such a defeated spirit and someone who has very low or no self esteem. Mike, I don't think I'm better than anyone else but I think I am just as good as anyone else and you should feel the same way. I've always been able to interact with people from all walks of life whether they be rich or as poor as a church mouse, because regardless of circumstances, we are all the same, human beings with many faults and shortcomings and that is the way we have to approach people. I must admit though that sometimes people's attitudes can make me very uncomfortable and as is probably only human, I tend to shy away from those people. We may only know some people through our computer monitors but I am a firm believer that eventually, if not right away, people's true character comes through. I know there are a lot of con artists out there but we just have to sift through until we find the genuine souls and there are a lot more of the good than the bad, the bad just yell the loudest and the longest and can be sneakier than a weasel.
Again I offer my condolences on the passing of your brother, take care of yourself and may you have a blessed week.

10_1_136.gifThere are many reason why a person takes to the streets to beg for money. What we see that is most obvious is people staggering down the streets late at night with a bottle of whiskey in their hand. However, this is a minority. I don't believe that a person should brag about how much money they make, because it isa little like rubbing salt in an open wound. I have lived in homeless missions and I have slept under bridges, and when I have not been able to find day work I have gone through dumpsters to gather alluminum cans to take to the recycling distribution points for a few dollars. A great number of people that you see panhandling are people that have served their country for four, eight, or ten years or more, and have been discharged from the service because they have been wounded in the line of duty. After searching for jobs without success they do whatever they can to survive. The least intrusive is panhandling. Also, our Welfare system is set up in such a way that if a family finds themselves in a position where they need help from Welfare (To get back on their feet)they are at the mercy of the system. While on the system you receive Food Stamps, Clothing Allowance for your children, free clinics, job training, and many other things to help you get by. Once you find a job, you loose all these benefits and find yourself in worse shape than you were in before. The Welfare system is not there to help you get a job and get on your feet because if they helped everyone in their system receive gainful employment, they would be out of business. They are there to do everything possible to keep their own jobs. They will help you to enroll in any class that you want to keep the classrooms full, but when you finish that class or course they will be busy finding you another one to enroll in rather than having you apply your knowledge on a real job.

I served in the United States Air Force for four and a half years, the Army National Guard for four years and the Army Reserve for four years. I cannot receive any help at all from the Veteran's services. They will and have helped illegal immigrants by paying their rent, Lights, and even buying them automobiles. I have been told that I don't qualify.

I took early retirement because most of my jobs have been in the Food Service Industry. In every single job that I have had, I was lucky to get twenty hours a week while my Mexican co-workers worked an average of thirty to thirty six hours a week. My last job was at Boston Market which was about five miles from where we live.I knew every position in the kitchen. I trained all the new workers, the ratio was 10% American, 90% Mexican. Each time that I trained a new worker I would notice my hours going down. Finally, I was down to twelve hours a week. I am able to work as many hours as I want with no penalties on my retirement pension (which is very small), however if I make even ten dollars more than I now make, Shirley's Disabilty check is taken completely away. We don't live, in fact we don't actually survive because the rules and regulations that we have to live by are not set up to help anyone but the people that sit behind their desks pushing pencils. I have asked several organizations is they would have a used car, even twenty years old so that I may be able to get to food pantries or doctors appointments or even just to get Shirley out of the house now and then and I have always been told that either they did not have one or that I do not qualify.

For the most part, the panhandlers are out there because they cannot get the help that they need from the organizations that are set up for the very purpose of helping those in need. The truth is, if you speak English and you served your country don't ask for help. They don't have any intention on helping you at all.

GOD BLESS YOU

~Mike~

No soup kitchen for this beggar. Shane Warren Speegle told Oklahoma City police he made $60,000 panhandling last year.

"Why would I go get a job?" he said to an officer who approached him earlier this month, according to KOCO.com.

Speegle, 45, carried a 4-foot-by-4-foot sign requesting money for travel and food at an Oklahoma City he couldn't panhandle without a license, but Speegle suggested that a $200 daily permit was within his means, KOCO.com reported.

A $60,000 salary puts Speegle in the average-income realm of architects, appraisers and computer programmer analysts, according to careerbuilder.com. It also puts Speegle comfortably above the U.S. median household income of between $49,434 and $51,413, BusinessInsider pointed out.

In Speegle's case, perhaps beggars can be choosers. In words that would stir up many hard-working Americans and the 8.2 percent who are unemployed, Speegle reportedly told the officer: "I'm lazy and I made $60,000."

The officer reportedly issued a warning to Speegle to leave because he had neither a permit nor an insurance policy. The cop returned 20 minutes later and arrested the still-pandhandling Speegle for soliciting from the street, KOCO.com reported. Speegle was taken to the Oklahoma County jail.

10_1_136.gifHi Kathleen,What I used to enjoy doing to make extra money was Flea Markets. I began by gathering everything that I no longer needed but that was still in good condition, and to offset that I would buy costume jewelry in bulk. I than began going to auctions and I learned very quickly that if I waited for the Junk boxes to be auctioned off, I would get a better deal. Junk boxes were odds and ends being thrown together in a box. At one auction, the auctioneer was getting perturbed because he brought out a box, took a couple items out and tried to get an opening bid. No one would make a bit. He put up another box. No bid. Finally, he had four boxes of {Junk} and on top of the boxes he put a scatter rug. He said, "Come on people. Make me a bid. Any bid. I don't want to put this stuff back. I raised my hand and said, "Fifty cents." He laughed and said that fifty cents was not a bid. Someone in the back hollered out, "You said make a bid. Any bid. He made the bid.He has the opening bid so get on with it." He sighed and said, "I have fifty cents. Do I have two dollars?" No one outbid me, so I got the four boxes plus the scatter rug for fifty cents. The runner brought the boxes to me and put them down as I got out two quarters. About five minutes later, someone walked in and sat behind me. He noticed the scatter rug and asked if it were for sale. I nodded yes and he offers me $5.00. I gave him the rug and he gave me the $5.00 and the auctioneer yelled at me saying that I could not do that. I smiled, shrugged my shoulders and said, "I paid for it so I guess I can do whatever I want with it. The following day, as I was cleaning the items in the boxes for an upcoming Flea Market, I noticed something on the bottom of one of the boxes that was quite dirty. I carefully washed it down being careful not to ruin it. The more that I cleaned it, the more excited I became. I was married to my ex-wife at the time so I did not tell her what it was. It was a very old Railroad Watch. This was in the 70's. At a Flea Market that weekend I found a watch dealer. The crystal on the watch was broken and the hands were bent. He told me that he would give me $50.00. I laughed and walked away. As I was packing up later that day the watch Dealer made his final offer. $350.00. I hesitated but finally agreed. Actually, I was estatic, however I had learned that when you are dealing with other Flea Market dealers you can never let them know how you really feel. If I had a Mini Van or station wagon, I would be setting up at local Flea Markets almost immediately. It is exciting, you meet a lot of people, and your friends are not talking you into selling products on line claiming that they just received a check for $5,000.00, when in fact they had been selling this product for two months and you were the only person in their downline and they have not received any checks.

Your program may be legitimate, and you may be making good money doing this kind of work, but I can't affoed to loose money that I don't have.

GOD BLESS YOU

~Mike~

Thank you Kathleen and Mark for your posts. I agree we have to have a passion for what we do and my passion has always been health and wellness and anytime I learn of something that may help some one, I like to pass it on. I think all the additives in our food supply and the genetically modified are the main reasons for so many peoples health challenges. I am switching to a gluten free diet after reading many articles about the genetically modified wheat being used in our food supply now and many of those articles say that is the reason so many are overweight and since I am trying to lose some weight I thought it would definitely be worth a try.

Hello everyone, I'm sure by now most of you have heard of all the controversy with Chik-Fil-A and when I read this article today from one of my online sources decided to post it. This is not about agreeing or disagreeing with someone's sexual orientation but about losing more of our freedoms. I have my own opinion about homosexuality but I don't go around talking about it. People's sex lives are none of my business but I resent it big time when it is thrown in my face regardless of whether anyone is a homosexual or heterosexual. Regardless of anyone's sexual orientation it should be kept private behind closed doors and only shared between consenting adults and not broadcast to the whole world, it's called decency.

Mayors thrashed for talk of Chick-fil-A ban

'It should be a wake-up call to every American who believes in liberty and freedom'
by Chelsea Schilling

When Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy said he supports biblical marriage between a man and a woman – rather than homosexual marriage – several U.S. mayors threatened to ban the fast-food chain from coming to their cities.

But would such a move be legal?

Liberty Counsel President Mathew Staver told WND’s Greg Corombos that city bans on Chick-fil-A would be unconstitutional.

He said this reaction proves that homosexual activists are militantly intolerant and are interested in intimidating and silencing critics rather than engaging in an actual debate.

Boycotts were called, homosexuals threatened to hold kiss-ins at Chick-fil-A restaurants and at least three big-city mayors blasted the fast-food chain: Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee.

Emanuel declared that “Chick-fil-A values are not Chicago values.” Emanuel’s spokeswoman later said the mayor wouldn’t stop Chick-fil-A from opening a new restaurant.

In a letter to Cathy, Menino wrote, “There is no place for discrimination on Boston’s Freedom Trail and no place for your company alongside it.” Menino later said he was expressing his own opinion and couldn’t stop Chick-fil-A from coming to Boston.

Lee tweeted: “Closest (hash)ChickFilA to San Francisco is 40 miles away & I strongly recommend that they not try to come any closer.”

Staver said threats to ban Chick-fil-A from cities are irresponsible, and blocking a business from opening due to the personal beliefs of its leader would be discriminatory and, therefore, illegal.

“It’s a wake-up call to all of us who have biblical values and share these moral principles that natural marriage is a union of one man, one woman,” Staver said. “We’re facing a very intolerant movement that wants to silence biblical views and views on natural marriage and morality.

“Here we have the president of Chick-fil-A, a privately owned, family run business, who expresses in an interview – based upon the Bible – that natural marriage is the union of one man and one woman. As a result of that, a firestorm breaks out and you have government officials, such as the mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel, and the mayor of Boston, Mayor Tom Menino, and you also have the alderman in Chicago, all of whom are saying that Chick-fil-A cannot do business in their cities – that they’re not going to allow them to have a business permit, zoning permit. They’re going to block them from having a Chick-fil-A restaurant.

“That’s absolutely outrageous, and it should be a wake-up call to every American and everyone who believes in liberty and freedom.”

Staver said the belief that marriage is a union of one man and one woman has been shared by various cultures and religions throughout history.

“It’s common sense and part of who we are as Americans and as individuals around the world,” he said. “Now Mayor Rahm Emanuel says that those values are incompatible with the values of Chicagoans. They may be incompatible with Rahm Emanuel’s values, but they’re certainly compatible with most of Chicagoans and most of America.”

He noted that many legal professionals have condemned the mayors’ threats to block Chick-fil-A from their cities.

“These statements should not be made by government officials,” he argued. “These statements are the height of discrimination, and they simply undermine the Constitution. They are absolutely uncalled for, and these individuals ought to be ashamed that they even made these kinds of statements against Chick-fil-A, Mr. Cathy or anyone else who hold those views while they were in their government position.”

Staver noted that UCLA law professor Eugene Volokh has written an article saying the mayors have opened up their cities to criticism and even litigation because of their threats. He said even the ACLU condemned the statements. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg – despite his own support of same-sex marriage – said he disagrees with his fellow mayors.

Bloomberg said on his weekly radio show on WOR that it is wrong for the government “to look at somebody’s political views and decide whether or not they can live in the city, or operate a business in the city, or work for somebody in the city.”

Even Richard Socarides, a New York lawyer and former Clinton White House adviser on homosexual “rights” who is calling for a boycott of Chick-fil-A, told the Associated Press cities cannot regulate speech by denying business permits based on political beliefs.

Staver said, “Every person from left to right and anything in between – within the legal arena, law professors and public-interest organizations – has said that these are outrageous, they’re uncalled for, and they cross the line. Government officials should not censor what you’re doing, in your speech, in your private views, and therefore try to hold over you an opposition to even do business.”

Staver warned that the homosexual-marriage movement is not about “tolerance.”

“This is not about what two people want to do in the privacy of their own home,” he said. “This is an ideological clash of unprecedented proportions. There will be one winner, and there will be one loser. …

“I’m not optimistic that it’s going to tone down any time soon. But what I am saying is that we need to be vigilant, and Liberty Council is ready to not only educate but also to defend the line. This is a battle that we cannot lose … This is a battle that is absolutely intent on silencing biblical viewpoints.”
