“ON THE OTHER FOOT”
Was talking to my daughter yesterday and our conversation reminded me of a part in the movie “Overboard”.
The main character of the story was a very rich woman, who was arrogant and rude. When she got amnesia she was taken in by a carpenter with 4 boys and made to believe that she was their mother and his wife. Living a life she had never and most likely would have never known. Once it all came out what was going on and she was back on the yacht, the butler who is now her friend told her “ Madam some people live all their life knowing only that one little station into which they were born....but you madam have been giving the rare opportunity to experience another. What you do with that information is up to you.”
Its a great movie which always, always makes me boohoo at the end. But it is happy boohoo' ing. :-)
But thinking about that, I was given that gift.
There were many factors at the time that caused my husband and I to separate. However during the 10 years that we were, I was able to see one of our major reasons for our separation from the other side of it. Situations that I was in put me in that position. As time went on I was able more and more to see from the other side of the coin. It began to change how I felt about my husband and the issue between us. It began to open my eyes, my mind and my heart.
We all really only know our one little station in life, we have preconceived notions of how things should be and what should happen.
It is only when we can put the “shoe on the other foot” that we can truly see and understand situations from different angles.
Doing so will open ourselves up to really seeing from another perspective, to more understanding, more compassion.
