Hi:

What he is saying I beieve is... "If you're a professional, act like a professional".

Good one, Bob. That's the interpretation I like best so far.
I also think we can take it farther. A lot of times, business owners do things from a place of desperation - and it always shows and seldom has the results they want.
A little story...
A few years ago, a business owner came to me with a problem. She'd made some bad investments and needed to boost her business to recoup. So she ran a 10% off sale, but it didn't make enough.
So then she ran a 20% sale and made more. So she did another, but results were lower. So then she did a 25% sale and made a little more. Re-ran it with no result and went to 1/3 off.
By the time she contacted me, she'd run a 2 for one sale that didn't make much and people weren't buying anything in between the sales events.
I told her of course they're not. She's worked very hard to show them that her products aren't worth the regular price tags on them. She had, effectively, undermined the value of her own products. And very well, too
Was I able to fix it? Yup. In less than three months, we had web sales up over 10K per month at regular price. We just stopped looking at "her" need and started looking at people's needs.
We brought her "skill" to the marketplace instead of her "need."
