Hi Luka,
Thanks for your Invite. Very interesting Topic, especially since we're all guilty of this from time to time.
Someone who talks all around a topic or speaks indirectly about a topic before getting to the point, might be said to have beat around the bush. In other words, if you tell someone not to beat around the bush, you're telling them to be direct and get to the point.
From what I've always heard, the likely origin of the phrase, Beat Around The Bush, may be derived from early hunting techniques in which unarmed men would walk around the forest beating tree branches and making noise, so as to flush the game from the bush. This allowed the hunters to avoid directly approaching the animals. This technique was most often used in Wild Boar hunting. In Boar hunting, which is the only form of hunting that could really be called a Sport, since the Boar has almost as much chance of killing you as you do of killing him, this was done as a safety measure due to the razor sharp tusks and the likelihood of a Boar charging a hunter. Bushwhacking, on the other hand, means the opposite of Beat Around The Bush, since it means to make one's way through thick woods by cutting away bushes and branches. Although, in common usage today, Bushwhacking refers to ambushing one's quarry, what you might call Backstabbing. As you see, either term aptly describes most Politicians, among others.
In this "PC" world in which we live, Beating Around The Bush is an easy way to avoid "offending" anyone. Sad isn't it. Politicians are the World Champions at this, since they need everyone's Vote, and heaven forbid that they "Offend" anyone, even if they have to lie to them. I think the following little Picture sums up the Truth about most Politicians...

May I leave just one more little Pearl of wisdom from Maxine...
