Copyright issues

The question of what constitues copyright infringements has been brought to my attention. So as not to be guilty of said offense go read for yourself. Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright Watch for those 3 symbols when you copy and paste materials, usually at the bottom of the page. Read about what is covered and not covered. http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html Here is a situation, I find difficult. E-mails come the house with cute pics and funny script. No author is given. Then it gets passed on or posted here in Adlandpro. Are we violating copyright laws by passing these e-mails on. I once put up a thread I thought was cute only to find it is found on the internet. Lucky for me, it was not copywrite material nor did it have an author. Let's help each other understand copywrite laws.

From what I read, it is my understanding that an idea is not a copyright violation. For example, I read about 4 articles on Pandora's Box and then wrote my own version of this mythological story. If I had gone to a site and copied the story as printed word for word then this would be a violation?? http://community.adlandpro.com/forums/thread/579481.aspx

Hi Mary

I used to work in Higher Education and had some dealings with copyright (English spelling).  If all or part of a work that is copyright is copied as is and no credit given to the author then the person who has copied it is in breach of the copyright law.  However, if part of the work is copied as a quote and credit given to the author then there is no breach of the copyright law.  Doubtful is when the information is put in your own words unless it can be seen that the new work refers to more than one authors work so that the result then amount to your own original work.

Hello Mary,

I just got a 'Nasty Gram' the other day here, because they THOUGHT my daughter had broke copywrite laws with THEIR recipe. So they called Cait's upline & wrote me a threating PM. I sent them to this link but have not heard how their copywrite is coming along. I would suggest everyone that thinks they OWN a recipe go check out the laws.

Here is a link to copyright laws for recipes & how to apply for one.   http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl122.html

This is one reason I have not been here. I have grown tired of people thinking that the rules only apply to everyone else. To many people jumping the gun with statements that they have not looked into.

I do hope this helps someone else,

Sheryl Loch

Hi Mary!  :-)

This is a wonderful post!  People really do need to be careful in what they copy -n- paste.  However.....were you aware that in order to be clear of any copywrite laws....all you need to do is change the orginal material by 30%?  I think that music and company logos are different.....but in reference to literature - it's only a mere 30% change that needs to be made.

Have an awesome week!

~ Drummerboy Keep on thinking positive…..thank God for everything that’s good in your life……..and make it a great week!
