You list is full of wonderful things that even the more experienced forum participant can learn from! Thank you for sharing yourself with us all!
I too have had less than some pleasant experiences here on Adland but I come back because of the great friends I have made here.
I had a recent experience lately that still leaves my head shaking...
I too 'accept' new friendships with ads and while I do not indicate to them that this is spam I do tell them I am not interested, mainly because I am not working a business nor am I marketing, my own choice, a different path.
But this new request has been so insistent, they are promoting 'Success in 10 Steps', I have read the book, I have listened to some of the info, I have given Michael's philosophy much thought and this 'Adlander' has not even taken one of his first principles to heart, become a friend before you promote, they are forgetting the Add button does not replace the work of building a relationship.
After the initial contact and decline to 'join' them in their endeavour I am told I am just 'frustrated', third time I am told it's 'not my fault, I've been lied to', now I am just venting but this is more than just spamming, it's border lining on harassment.
Amazing, simply amazing!!!
They've now been blocked but it's true about the retaliation factor, one never knows the true mental state of the person behind the messages. Learned that one this spring too, one can put on a happy face and makes lots of quick joking comments to the online world, making lots of 'friends' and becoming a top poster, even POTW, but can be full of darkness and anger. It's all very sad.
