William and Aly,

Thank you for this.

With a total crash on my pc I'm restricted to sharing an underpowered laptop, however, despite not being able to read the full lines on the posting I managed to glean enough information to help my understanding of this matter.

Forgive me if I don't get in deeply with this but I want you to know that I have learned from this.

Roger

Hello Roger

Thank you for your comments and interest in our forum here. Sorry to hear about your PC crash. I too have a problem with lines running off screen. Usually, When I click on reply, the post will come up full screen.

If there is someone you know who might have an eating disorder, Ally will be happy to talk with them. She has learned a lot over the last couple of years and is doing very well. These types of disorders are often not taken seriously and the consequences can be devastating.

Ally and I have access to a lot of resources for mental health and will be happy to help anyone in any way we can. If someone doesn't want to talk on the forums, they are welcome to PM either of us at any time.

Take Care Roger and Have A Very Merry Christmas.

Sincerely, Billdaddy & Ally

May a smile follow you to sleep each night and,,,,,be there waiting,,,,,when you awaken http://community.adlandpro.com/forums/8212/ShowForum.aspx Sincerely, Billdaddy

Re: Eating Disorders, Yes, they are for real

Hello Everyone,

Thank you Bill for re-opening this thread for us.  Eating Disorders are easily ignored. And when they are discovered in someone we know...the resuts will vary and can result in death.

I have had friends go into the hospital to be tube fed. I myself was in a hospital to be tube fed, it is a painful way to live. But I am  very happy to say I am alive and doing much better.  I now have a wonderful man in my life, and 2 beautiful kids and I will not go down that road again of eating disorders for nothing.  That road is finally behind me.

Yes I can have a set back or a relapse...but with the right attitude and mindset, I can beat that all together.

I have had friends call my mom and tell her I would not eat in school... the teachers would call my mom and tell her. My mom said I was just not feeling well and to mind their own business.  It was denial...and that is tough. A parents denial to their teenage kids with eating and not eating is the worst. And of course... their is the child themselves denying they have a problem.  I admited to my eating disorders a few years back and once I admited to it, it felt like the weight of the world was off of my shoulders.

Well I rambled here long enough.. I hope this reaches someone out there and lets them know... YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

If you do not wish to talk openly in this forum about eating disorders... please feel free to e-mail me personally at mama_allycat@yahoo.com

Love,

Ally

Hi Billdaddy and Ally,

I have a client at the moment who is a world-class government trained survival specialist who has taught thesubject and written books about it. A tough endurance cookie, BUT, he has had worsening food alergies for many years leading to a TINY choice of foods available to them.

This poor guy can't leave the house since last April because he has a MASSIVE fear of being sick which causes panic and agriphobia. I am working on some NLP solutions but this shows just how diverse eating disorders can be.

Keep talking to folk,it has to help.

Yes Roger, it is a tough road to walk and it is harder when one walks it alone.  We want to show everyone in this Topic that there is hope and help.

My purpose is to show everyone here the happiness that comes when one recovers.   I am just really happy that I have recovered and plan to stay that way. :)

I have also looked on the internet looking for famous people that have suffered and are suffering from eating dosordrs. And it is amazing... one would look at the famous people and think "WOW They have it made... the life everyone dreams of".  With the fame and money comes an ugly price the people are facing.. and it is not just actors and actresses.. it is modles as well.  Being skinny does not look beautiful, or healthy... and the women think they have to have the "perfect body and shape" to be beautiful..... but we are all beautiful no matter what size or shape we are.

Britney SpearsBritney Spears

Us Weekly reports: Spears is in the middle of a divorce with aspiring rapper Kevin Federline. The pair have two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James. The pop princess was sent to Promises rehab center for alcohol abuse and was released on March 20. She seemed as if she was ready to turn her life around but recent reports say she is drinking again, binge shopping and eating too much. Star magazine estimates Spears weighs at least 135 pounds now.

Eating disorder specialist Gregory Jantz Ph.D. says he would describe the troubled singer as having a “binge personality” and very “compulsive.” “She’ll do mega workouts and watch what she eats for, say, two months and then she’ll return to her binging behavior, which gives her a temporary feeling of comfort,” Dr. Jantz says.

Nicole RichieNicole RichieNicole Richie
As an Eating Disorder expert, Dr. Jantz was interviewed by Weekly InTouch Magazine (Sept 4, 2006, Vol.5 Issue 36, page 15) about Nicole Richie.

"Nicole could die if she doesn't stop dieting," Dr. Jantz, an eating disorder specialist and the founder of A Place of Hope treatment center in Seattle, tells In Touch. "She's putting herself in a dangerous place."

Nicole Richie pregnantOne treatment center stated at only 25 years old Nicole Richie may be in danger of losing her baby if she does not get help from an anorexia treatment center.
Medical experts say that her battle with anorexia mixed with alcohol and cocaine abuse are probably putting her baby’s life in danger.  If Nicole was to enter an anorexia treatment center she would probably get the help she needed and her pregnancy would not be as at risk. The 12 weeks pregnant Nicole still struggles to stay sober everyday.  Experts also believe that she still has a long way to go to become completely sober.  Doctors say that if Nicole had drugs in her system when she got pregnant or shortly there after, she has a greater risk of birth defects, or even a miscarriage. Nicole’s anorexia also presents her pregnancy with another huge risk.  Many are surprised that she was even able to get pregnant at all.  During the course of her pregnancy she will need to gain 40 pounds or more just to be able to feed and nourish the baby properly.

Ana Carolina RestonBrazil model Ana Carolina Reston, who weighed only 88 pounds, dies at 21 because of generalized infection as a result of anorexia.

"Take care for your children because their loss is irreparable," Reston's mother, Miriam, told the O Globo newspaper. "Nothing can make the pain go away. No money in the world is worth the life of your child."

The model's cousin, Dani Grimaldi, told the Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper that Reston also battled bulimia.

It is always heartbreaking to me when somebody dies as the result of not getting treatment for an eating disoder. Especially, at the young age of 21. This is also why I am strongly against pro-ana websites. Those who promote pro-anorexia do not understand how serious anorexia can be. It is an eating disorder that needs to be taken serious.

If you know someone who is suffering from an eating disorder, I want you to know there is hope if you get them help in time. If you would like more information on how you can help someone you suspect, or you know, has an eating disorder, click here for Special Reports on helping others.

The best advice Jamie-Lynn can offer is that "if you know someone who is going through it, or if you are going through it, the person really has to want to get better to get better. She had to overcome the eating disorder bulimia, whose sufferers binge and purge, by checking into a clinic in 1994.
