Hello Dimitra!

Thank you Dimitra for the characteristic pictures of what is happening in our world. War fires and tornadoes is exactly of what we can expect in nearest future. The result from both are global catastrophes.

Earth losing race against rising carbon emissions

Hello Terry

Thank you for the comment. A new article by scientist follows below.

Have a nice day

Earth losing race against rising carbon emissions
by Chee Chee Leung October 23, 2007 - 7:00AM

The Earth's natural carbon sinks are "losing the race" against growing greenhouse gas emissions, scientists warn.
Australian and international researchers have found that weakening of the land and ocean sinks is causing carbon dioxide to accumulate in the atmosphere faster than expected.

Fifty years ago, 41 per cent of carbon emissions stayed in the atmosphere and contributed to global warming, with the rest absorbed by the sinks. The proportion of carbon that remains in the atmosphere has increased to 46 per cent, which means the Earth is soaking up a progressively smaller fraction.
"These sinks are not keeping pace with the increase in emissions we're throwing at them," said CSIRO scientist and study co-author, Mike Raupach.

Dr Raupach said the findings, published today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, highlighted the urgent need for emissions reductions.
The growth rate of global carbon emissions has almost tripled over recent years, from 1.3 per cent in the 1990s to 3.3 per cent since 2000.

The latest study, led by scientists from the CSIRO and the Global Carbon Project, found the weakening of carbon sinks made up about 18 per cent of the increase in atmospheric carbon.

Other factors include the acceleration of the world economy combined with its increasing carbon intensity. The paper, based on data from the United Nations and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, also said recent droughts in Europe and Australia had contributed to the weakening of land carbon sinks.

British scientists recently reported that the North Atlantic ocean's uptake of carbon dioxide had halved between the mid-1990s and 2002-05. And in May, a paper in Science showed the Southern Ocean's ability to soak up carbon dioxide had decreased by as much as 30 per cent.

Yes Georgios I saw that new report that you posted by the Scientists.
Personally I believe that the damage is done and is not repairable.
We are just in another cycle in earth.
Cultures from years ago have warned about mans abuse of Mother Earth and what would happen and nobody listened. Thw man still goes on and cuts down forests all over the world and little is being replanted.
I studied the effects of the carbon and oxygen cycle in Enviromental Science at University a couple of years ago and the trees convert the co2 back into oxygen.
It is all part of Gods creation. We as humans have abused it badly and we will pay the price in the future. Well we are paying now with extreme drought conditions in Australia doubling the price of vegetables and fruit. Meat is going to follow, that will not worry me as I hardly eat it.
All diary prices have started to rise also.
I do believe we can slow down the process, but it has to be done world wide and right now.
Many still say there is no such thing yet people in some of the pacific ocean have had to be moved off islands already as they are disappering under the sea.
The other think is all Unilities are increasing in price such as natural gas and electricity. Natural Gas has become a problem in itself with gas fields drying up.
God only knows where and went this will all end.
I think also we as humans need to get back to the old ways and grow our own vegetables again and become more self sefficiant that is of course if we have water to use on the plants we grow ?
Keith.

Hello Keith!

And mankind learned to set up fires. And the fire is a good tool but long as he controls it. If he cant don't use for his well he should let it be.

Thank youf this very informative reply. It is additional to the article.
