Hi Michael,
It is true that some people judge others based solely on how they look. We women have faced this forever. We feel inadequate in the presence of beautiful, slender women, whom we feel men desire more than they do the ordinary everyday woman. The actresses and actors in movies and on TV are selected for their above-average looks. Even those in commercials are often better looking than the average person. This can make every-day people feel inadequate. We get a skewed view of people by watching TV and/or movies.
I worked at a psychiatric hospital for 24+ years. Many of the patients would stand-out as being "different" if they were allowed to be in public. I am used to many different types of people, both in appearance and behavior.
I haven't been handicapped, so haven't experienced that particular situation, but I had a friend at work who has cerebral palsy. She walked with a very unusual gait, so people tended to stare at her. She had a lot of self-confidence, though, so it didn't seem to bother her. Her parents must have raised her to be full of self-esteem.
Keep up the good work. You are to be praised for opening up your heart to share your feelings with others.
