Hi James,
Thank you for your response.  Yes, I was raised Catholic, got away from the church for awhile, and returned.  I have always felt that where two or more gather in His name, he also is there.  The Temple of GOD is within all of us.  Although I never studied religion in school I did, when I was younger, go to the library quite often and Took out books on Theology and Ancient Roman History.  You see, as I grew up it the forties and fifties we would attend chuech on Sunday, listen to the sermon that the priest would recite, obviously not knowing a single thing that he was saying, and one Sunday he recited a sermon that told of the slaughter of every man, woman, and child in Canaan because they did not believe on he word of the Lord.  He finished the sermon by saying that we were to smite those that did not believe on the word of  God according to Catholic Teachings.  My parents did not have that great an education as they lived during the Depression and had to give up school in order to work.  When we got home that day, I was very quite.  My father asked me what was wrong.  I asked him if we had to do as the priest ordered.  My father said that the Priest was a man of God, and his commands were mandatory.  I sighed and asked my father if he knew what the word Smite meant.  He told me that I had to stay away from people that were not Catholic because they were praying to a false GOD.  I told my father that what the priest had told us to do was to Kill all that were not Catholic, and that I would not abide by his orders because he was wrong.  My father got mad and said that the Priest was Never Wrong.  Unfortunetley, and sadly, many do listen to their Priests, Ministers, Rabbi's, and other Preachers and do as they say.  The worse word in any language is the word Hate.  This word was used I believe only once in the Bible when God said the he Hated the Earth. We all hate wars, however we go beyond that and decide to Hate every citizen in the country where the war is taking place, however the media does not always tell us the truth, and the government has never been able to tell us the truth of what caused the war.  The sad truth is that over ninety percent of the wars that have taken place on Earth were the results of differences of opinion of interpretations on the Bible.  The catholic Religion has always been the stronger religion on Earth.  The Columns on the inside and outside of the Vatican are adorned with Gargoyles.  Gargoyles, for those that do not know, are Pagan symbols.  Saint Peters Bacilica has in the middle of the main room has a Pentagram, (The Pagan Circle) which was painted over but never destroyed.  Most Catholic Chirches have high ceilings and the ancient hymes, when sung in unison by the choir, were designed to be sung in a manner that was hypnotic in nature.  Therefore, whatever the priest was preaching at the time would be embedded in the minds of everyone in attendence.   Monesteries go one step further. They have the high ceilings, long corridors, and chant.  These will be the future priest, therefore it is essential that they have the messages of the Bible embedded deep within there minds.  Therefore, chosen passages from the bible are chanted over and over again.  To put it in respective, the Paganists adopted many of their rituals directly from Catholic Doctrine.
As for the question of the Cross.  In the Bible, those that witnessed the Crucifixion of Jesus gave testimony that they saw him being Nailed to the Cross.  Jesus's father Joseph was a carpenter by trade.  Jesus took up the trade and from time to time  worked at his trade.  On one  temporay job, he was employed to build crosses.  While most of the apostles witnessed him being nailed to the cross, Timothy  stated more than once in the Bible that he witnessed  Jesus being hanged by the neck from  a tree.  Terry claims that he was  on a pole.  First, a pole or a noose would not be suitable  for a symbol however a cross is recognizeble to all.  In his travels, Jesus was once employed to built a spiral staircase in a church leading up to the choir section.  This was two thousand years ago.  The staircase had no support beams, no center structure, and no visible means of support.  Acheologists dug up this small community a few years ago, all the buildings were demolished, however the staircase was still intact.  Could he create miracles?  Indeed he could.  Does it matter if he was nailed to a Cross, hung by a tree, or impailed on a post?  No, those are just speculations.  What does matter is that Jesus knew why he was born, and knew that he must die. When one of his disciples cut off the ear of the Roman soldier, Jesus stopped him.  He said, "It is Time.  Spread the Word of my Father."  Just before his last breath he looked up and in much agony said, "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken Thee?" proving that he was made of Flesh of Man.  In the Old Testament, there were many orders by God to destroy villages and all within those villages.  The New Testamant was a transformation from the old to get a human's respective on why so many found it hard to follow in his footsteps.  Being Man, Jesus had cpmpassion for us as he knew that the Mind was Strong but the Flesh was weak.  When the Prostitude was brought before him to be stoned, Jesus picked up the rock, turned to the crowd and said, "yee without sin may cast the first stone."  How soon we forget.  I don't know if I could be considered a Christian, however I do know one thing.  I love everyone.  It does not matter to me if you are White, Black, Olive, it does not matter what religion you are, it does not matter if you know God or not, because my friend, he does know you.  If you have compassion in your heart, and if you at least try to do at least one good think each day, or even if you have fallen by the wayside and are have difficulty getting up, know that GOD will help you if you pray.  How complicated is prayer?  Look up and say, "Please Help me."  You don't have to say Jesus, Yahwee, Jehovah, because He will know.  Believe in miracles because as soon as you are ready he will deliver one to you.  Please help those that need your help.  Don't turn away from a man dressed in dirty clothes, and hold back your anger if someone dissagrees with the way that you think because one day you will strike out at a person or look disgustingly at a beggar and they will reach their hand out to you and you will see the mark of a nail as you glance down.  Once your head is bowed, you may as well leave it in that position because my friend it is too late.
To all my female friends, no matter what your race, creed, or color, a great big Hug And Kiss

To all my Male friends BACK OFF!!!! OOps!! I mean a big hand shake.I guess I have to constipate more.  Oh Craps!!! I meant concentrate.

James

My answer to your original question.

Jesus was asked once "Who is my neighbour?". We all know the answer our Lord gave.  If we look at His answer a neighbour was not necessarily the one who lived next door. A neighbour is someone who comes forward when you really need help.

The same way, "who is a christian?"  A christian is not necessarily one who claims to be christian. A christian is anyone who tries his/her best to follow the teachings of Christ. A christian could be someone who has never heard about Christ, still follows the teachings of Jesus quite unaware that they are teachings of Christ.

May God bless us all.

Lissa
