Dear Dave,

you couldn't have said it better !

As far as I'm concerned, if you have to blow your own horn in order to get enough votes to win, you don't deserve to win.

Now how true is that !!!  Thank you and bless you for  being YOu !

your friend

Dave,

You have been very blunt.  I think these things (shame on me) but I skirt around the issues when I post.  Your  being so forthright is a breath of fresh air.

I  gave up voting on any of the awards when I learned that certain people could determine the outcome of the vote.  Oh no, I didn't say that.  Well  I might as well tell it like it is.

When I saw the new award for forums. I voted but within a day  I saw the "Vote for me" and "vote for my forums" threads flying by on the pop ups.  That is when I posted on your last forum about politics being involved.  Yes, a sad day for Adlandpro but bad apples soon destroy the whole barrel.

Now there is another issue.  Here I go again.  Someone just topped another in number of posts.  "I am great", "I'm # 1" etc. etc. etc. to the point I want to vomit.  Posting a lot is now the GREAT ACOMPLISHMENT?  When you become # 1 what is there to fear?   A heck of a lot because # 2 poster person will be pushing on  you.  Then I see a post announcing that another person is striving to be right up there as # 1.  Now we will have 3 people putting up 20 threads a day just to keep ahead of the Jones'. There now I feel better.

Here's my conclusion.  Do your own thing.  Be yourself.  Block these people out of your minds.  Don't read their forums.  Don't patronize by buying their product.  Stay on your side of the community. No one says we have to like all people  or their style of advertsing. They have the right to put up threads whinning and crying that we are picking on them.

There have been far too many forum threads on this subject and these people.  They can stay in our community but it continues to rot the barrel.  So be it.

Have a super good day David.  I plan too!!!  I feel better now.

Hi Dave,

thankfully I do not have your high profile, so do not get these things, but I do understand your rant (for a change), as opposed to someone I christened the Ranter ages ago, and simply ignore him.

However, I think you have hit the core problem now with Adland Pro - and I have mentioned this before. I think Adland Pro has become schizophrenic.

There are those who use it as a vehicle to try and sell (and sell, and sell, and sell - usually with the same old story), then there are those who have come to look at Adland Pro as a meeting place for friends (after all we do have a 'Friends' system - albeit widely abused), and then there are the confused ones who can't make up their mind which route to pursue.

From my point of view - I see Adland Pro as a companion and a friend, but I don't buy anything here.  Main reason is that so much stuff being placed is such obvious rubbish that I would have to acknowledge that my brain had finally fried if I even made a move towards my wallet.

I think it is fair to say that the most succesful commercial sites would be Amazon and e-Bay, but they have established themselves as a 'source' to use to find things rather than banner-waving spam-makers.

I have no problem with people wanting to parade their wares - LaNell's site is ideal for this. Of course Adland Pro IS set up as a 'business site', so we cannot decry people for using it as such.

However, even in the time I have been here I have seen the incredible drop-out rate of a lot of people who I felt offered a lot - like yourself with good ideas, commonsense and a sense of community.  Somehow I doubt this will continue.

I am still puzzled as to why Bogdan does not use the power of Adland Pro to sell advertising space, and let us have it as a forum. 40,000 subscribers has distinct commercial value and I for one would not complain if legitimate advertising supported it and not the spurious stuff being vaunted.

My bit.

Cheers,

Norm

PS.  I am now offering a Free Online Magazine - The Poster Online, and if anyone would like a copy (via .pdf file) just let me have an email address to send it to. Yes, I am partially promoting my books, but more than that I want to build up credibility and acceptance to get advertsing support.  Can't say fairer than that can I?

Hi David,

The ego can be a monster which rears its ugly head when one feels no one notices how great, lovely, wise, loving and useful we are.  When we think people appreciate us, we don't have to ask them to show it. That's called self-esteem.  If we love ourselves, we can show that to others and don't have to do strange things to boost the ego.

That would be and has probably already been a sermon subject for you.

Dave,

Something you said about tooting your horn reminds me of something one of my bosses said to me many years ago.  He said "James, When you are good at what you do you don't have to toot your own horn, others will do that for you".

This man (Bill K) also made this statement: James, when you are in the right you do not have to defend yourself because there are those that will step forward and defend you, because they know you are right."

Over the years I have found that both of the statements have been true.

And yes, I have to agree with what you have posted.
