Hi Dave, I seldom vote on any of the awards.  I voted on this one because I see value in forums and would like to promote the good ones. I fear there are too many forums to choose between.  It takes too much time for many to go check out the choices of those  of which they are not familar. Hence, they don't take time to check it all out. Sad to say but it has turned into a personality  vote with some  people  voting for the person rather than the quality of the forum.  We even have a few bragging  about how great their own forum is and begging members to come vote for their forum.  What is this politics now!!!   Thought it was for us to express our opinion as to the value of the forum. For both of those reasons that will be my first and last vote for Best Forum Award. I'd rather spend my time on yahoo talking to the ol coot!!!   Hi Arthur!

I concur. They're busy. I must have been because I didn't know Michael had set up the voting for the forums until I clicked on this post! hmmmm... is it ok to vote for your own? I felt odd submitting it except that I was tickled that the forum was eligible thanks to all adland comminity membrs who were so kind to take the time and prost or visit mine! speaking of visits Here another way to get more visitors!!

You make a very good point about the number of forums.

It had not occured to me to check out all the forums in the initial list because I could only vote for one of them. Naturally I voted for one on which I am active and from which I have obtained great value and pleasure.

Looking at the list again, I see that I am only familiar with four of them.

Maybe this award needs re-thinking. I can't possibly look at every forum (even with my health improving in leaps and bounds, I still, probably, have more spare time for reading than the average Adlander) and it could well be that I have voted in ignorance of what else is available. Indeed, my vote could hardly be considered a reasoned reaction to a request - more of a knee jerk.

Wasn't the initial list also created by the forum owners putting their forums forward for selection? Hardly representative of a free and unbiased selection.

Since they are looking for the top five out of the initial list - wouldn't it have made more sense for us to be able to vote for OUR top five? That way we might have been invegled to look at some of the forums with which we were not familiar.

Do we really have that many interesting forums?  I know that you, Dave, initiate many, but I have to confess that as soon as the Ranter appears, I drop out - and I suspect others do the same.

However I am always deeply grateful to him, as he makes me always remember the other things I should be doing - so I go and do them.

On other matters I must admit to a growing irritation with the requests for friendship, which invariably include some farcical free or wondrous offer. Automatic deletion.

At the moment working out who to vote for in the French Presidential Elections tends to dominate conversation in this house!

Good question - and the answer?  The Community, whilst larger in numbers, seems to have changed and  I had to chuckle when I read Arthur's explanation for the lack of interest in the BFA.

"They are too busy copying and pasting ads to create spam to bother with getting involved in the community."

And I would even add to that "copying and pasting their forum content" in some cases.  And I am not referring to members who quote their sources and use these articles to illustrate a discussion point.

Having said that.  I sincerely hope that the membership takes the time and opportunity and checks these forum out.  All are very good and some are excellent, both in their content and originality.  And then we can vote on their merits.
