Opps, sorry for my typos and I will try the link again. Past, Present, and Future Temperatures: Antarctic ice core records vividly illustrate that atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) levels today are higher than levels recorded over the past 650,000 years ... ---- http://www.ucsusa.org/global_warming/science/hockeystickFAQ.html

Dave,

A very good subject and the material you provided is excelent.

As you noted, people are more willing to believe a lie than to seek out the truth.

Hi, Neil,

What you say is true but only to a certain extent!

What is also true is that over all, there is more glacial activity, a greater cubic volume of land based ice and a greater volume of sea ice than there has been for some centuries.

One of the greatest claims of the global warming alarmists is that the sea level is rising because of melting ice - this is not true.

Islands in the South Pacific with a mean height above sea level of around ten feet have seen no significant encroachment of the sea onto the land.

Measurements show that the mean average sea level has risen by only 3cms in the last 57 years - not exactly life threatening.

It is also true that all weather stations not affected by local anomalies like big cities and vegetation stripping have shown a definite and sustained fall in mean temperatures.

There is enough evidence from ice cores and observation to bear out all these facts and I have given enough references in an earlier post for you to check out as much data and the bona fides of the scientists involved in this on-going research and data recording for you to confirm what I have said.

It is a matter of record that global warming is not significantly affected by the actions of mankind except on a very local level.

But that won't scare anybody so it is never reported in the popular media.

Hi, Neil,

Yes, Carbon Dioxide content has increased but it still only represents 0.036% of the atmosphere. A very tiny portion, indeed.

Since CO2 is one of the variable gasses, affected by many natural events, it is a little soon to be ascribing the whole growth to human activity.

Hi Art, This has become a most interesting and educational thread, a fact that pleases me immensely. I appreciate all the replies, links, opinions and facts from everyone! One that stands out and that I would like to invite everyone to take the time to follow through was posted by Darryl. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKL3Lv_DzfU This link is produced by young scientists from a US university and is well worth the time to watch and follow through. Once you have seen the video (take notes), you can do further research to check out the facts presented in the video. It points out the fact that while CO2, the gas that many seem to incorrectly link to global warming, is produced in abundance on the planet, it does not appear to be the key factor in any warming that's going on. If CO2 WAS the key, we would see a much more even rise in temperature all over the globe and also high in the atmosphere, since CO2 is a gas the rapidly disperses. On the other hand, there are significantly higher levels of water vapour in more localized area, which makes sense, for instance, if glaciers and ice fields are exposed to greater sun activity. Furthermore, that water vapour tends to hold the heat in near the surface, creating an even greater degree of temperature rise, again, locally. Another point that is worth checking out (not on the video) is that the global temperature of Mars seems to be increasing at close to the same rate as the Earth. Since there is no significant human activity on Mars (other than a few Mars Rovers), we cannot link human activity to the change in temperature on that planet. The big picture is quite complex, and as you point out, Arthur, it's a little soon to be blaming human activity for what we're seeing. On the other hand, it's never too early for us to do what we can to keep what we have clean. God bless, Dave
