Methinks some people need to do more in-depth study of history. MOST educated Europeans KNEW the earth was "round" during, & before Columbus's time. IT is a MYTH most of those living in the "Known World" believed the earth was flat during that time. So Columbus did not need the words in one of the MANY religious books to arrive at his "opinion" Neil

Great quote. Very inspiring makes one think. I also believe its about pursuing the unknown helping the world find something on faith. Columbus imagined the possibilities of a new world, and made the process of expansion possible. True there arguable is an inconsistency one could contemplate in history I agree...but it make more meaning contemplating this with columbus as a visionary....Imagined,sought the truth and lead the world into proving what they thought possible mary

Sorry, there are some historical inaccuracies being stated. Columbus did NOT imagine any possibilities of a "New World" as he had NO clue there was a "new world" between Spain and China. Columbus THOUGHT he was sailing west to China and finding a better trade route than going all the way around the southern tip of Africa and all the way back up north to then arrive in China. Neil
