Hi Bogden. This quote is one that needs some attention and study.
The first time I noticed that there were resorces yet undiscovered was when I was thrust into an impossible situation. It was me against the world with no money, no job and my only investments were two houses I owned or rather the bank owned and they were taking them back. Just before Christmas in 1982, laid off of my job at Conrail becuase of Ronald Reagan's government cut back programs.
There was a deep recession that resulted at the time and many Electrical Engineers in the area were also being laid off at the same time, so everywherre I went in Michigan, there were at least 100 other engineers applying for one available job.
I took my avalable money that was left and enrolled into an advanced management program in Detroit being taught by some of the best high level managers in the industry. There I spent the next 30 days at 12 hours a day learning how to find a job. I finished the course and still no job, and no money left.
I got a call from a company in Grand Haven Michigan from a desparate president of a small company that made power boat instruments. I had never designed a guage for a power boat, but as we talked, sitting at a dinner table at the Holiday Inn, I learned this job had been held by a man who had a PHD in Electrical Engineering as opposed to my BSEE. This man was fired for not producing results. I took the job, completely jumping off the deep end.
That night I woke up in a cold sweat and got dressed at 3:00 am, and said to myself "I can't do this !" Then I changed my mind and decided to go ahead and take the Job as "Production Line Supervisor", but really I was expected to fix the product, the product line and the whole company which would go out of business in about a month if something was not done.
I redesigned the product, installed a Quality control department and Fixed the production line, saving the company over 400,000 dollars in the first few months. In the next few months, we were bought by Kysor International, and I was promoted to Director of Research, Where I went on to build a new building and hire 20 engineers and 10 drafstman.
So where did these miraculous resorces I found come from? How could I succeed when a more qualified man could not? Was it within me or from some external source? I don't think I can truthfully take all the credit.
