Hi Linda,
Thank you for dropping by and thanks for sharing that pearl of wisdom with us.
What a terribly BORING world this would be if we all never had differing opinions!
I believe that we should all be able to voice our own opinions, but that we also need to be sensitive to our audience. By that, I don't mean that we should always keep quiet in case we upset someone - that is a form of dishonesty - but words can sometimes go beyond bothering someone to the point of causing harm or great hurt.
There needs to be a certain level of tolerance in any discussion. To tolerate something does NOT necessarily mean to approve of it, but it means to accept another individual's right to make their own choices and to have their own opinions, even if you disagree with them.
Our society here in Canada, today, has pushed tolerance to the point where some people think it means to embrace the opinions and choices of everyone. They really need to check their dictionaries! LOL!
The fact is that our "tolerant" society has also passed laws making certain openly voiced opinions a crime because of the harm and hurt that they can do. It is a shame when such laws are deemed necessary; people SHOULD be responsible enough to know where to draw the line.
God bless,
Dave
