Hey Lisa
Thank you for coming in .... Sadly there are a lot of scams on the Internet ... the biggest ones are the fake lotteries coming out of the Netherlands, London, Spain and just last week I got one from Canada ....
I have received phone calls from people in Paris and text messages from heaven only knows where, to my mobile phone!!!
Behind most of these scams are organised Nigerian groups or people looking for ways to launder money. They are very active in the real estate areas. They offer to purchase a property for a very large quantity of cash, giving you a huge commission. The truth is they get people to do what is known as a money run .... illegal in all countries and then they launder the money through the property purchase which never gets completed.
Another big scam right now is being run in the name of ebay. People receive an email identical to an ebay one asking if the item is still for sale .... when you click on the reply button or anything else in the email, they somehow steal your identity. They can break through your password and everything else and take over your account ....
With ebay, it is better to send any suspicious email to:
spoof@ebay.com or spoof@ebay.co.uk
With email scam you can block them from your "receive list" through outlook, yahoo, hotmail or any other provider. If you wish to report them, you can follow Georgios advice .... or you can write to whoever your mail provider is and ask them to take action ....
I hope this helps a little ... Please just ask if you need any more help. If I don't know the answer I will find you someone who does.
Take care
Venerina
