In response to your request asking for our opinions, I offer the following:
I agree that multiple emails can put us all on information overload, but I also see an extreme value to promoting friendships and networking through these special recognition forums.
I think where the problem lies, is that everyone is trying to send out notifications all at one time, and mostly on Friday and Saturdays. I would suggest that each person promoting the forum links be assigned a specific day throughout the week to send their forum invite. That would not only cut down on the sheer volume, but it would also create more postings during the week. Not everyone is in front of their computers on the weekend (especially during the summer).
I sent a forum invite 2 weeks ago that I thought went out, but did not. I re-sent it on a Tuesday, and I had extraordinary multiple posts to my message, and multiple posts honoring the spotlighted person. That gave me a heads up! :-)
