Hi Linda,
First, I want to thank both you and Sargeant Paul Davey for being such wonderful friends. I was in the Air Force in the Viet Nam Era. I insisted on wearing my uniform whenever I was home on leave. I couldn't walk down the street without being yelled at, pushed, or had stones thrown at me. Guess what. You never forget!! You do what Leon Horton did. You pay for a soldiers meal, hold the door open, or just say Thank You. Shirley and I were at WalMart last week, doing a little bit of shopping. We were ready to go, or at least I thought we were. Shirley had spotted a couple of soldiers coming our way. She waited. When they approached, she extended her hand and said, "Thank You." They were both shocked, but one asked her what she was thanking them for. She said, "As long as you are there, I can shop, come and go as I please, and sleep peacefully at night because I know that I am being protected. That's why I want to thank you." They both smiled, shook both of our hands, and said, "Your Welcome!" and continued on their way. I noticed, before they reached the door, one of them took his hankerchief out of his pocket and wiped his eyes. When I turned back towards Shirley, she was hugging the Greeter. I thought maybe she knew him. As it turned out, he was wearing a V.F.W. hat that proudly proclaimed "Vietnam Vet." He had a Waterfall of Tears. Through his tears he said, "I wish I could have gotten some hugs like that thirty-seven years ago." Then he added, "But, it's never too late." And people ask why I love Shirley.
God Bless you two for caring and God Bless Roy for being there.
Mike
