Multiple Income Streams - Pros and Cons?
3/30/2006 9:23:19 PM
Hello friends, When I started in network marketing over 8 years ago I was first taught that I should market only ONE company, focus and spend all my time on that one company. Ok. I did that and made good money - and that ONE company went out of business. So, I came to my own conclusion that I did not want all my eggs in one basket. I have since learned that I can have and manage more than one business - IF, and it's a BIG IF - I spend time on one program at a time to get it started and producing. THEN I can add another. So, for the last several years, that is what I have done with a combination of network marketing and affiliate marketing. It is great to receive several checks weekly and monthly. Of course, I also believe it is a personal decision and what works for me is not necessarily right for the next person. What are your views? Do you still believe in focusing on one business or are you open to creating more than one stream of income? I have lots more thoughts on the subject, and I would love to hear what you all have to say. Let the discussion begin!

Hi, Linda I'm a big believer in multiple income streams. I wasn't as methodical as you, because it seemed that several things that interested me and more or less fit together hit me all at once about eight months ago, right about the time I joined Adland. Not all came from here, but things were expanding, if you know what I mean. The result was that I quickly became overwhelmed, and am just now finding my way through. Some programs I reluctantly dropped, others I'll never give up even if I never can focus on them long enough to make them pay. That's because using the products works for me, and that's a good reason to be in a program. I've decided not to take on anything else until I gain control over my offline business(es) and can allocate more time to my website. I don't regret starting what I'm keeping, and it's been a learning experience to try to juggle them. I think your idea to get one at a time started and producing is probably more sensible, though. For the record, I think that putting all your eggs in one basket is a bad idea in any arena of your life except your marriage, lol. Cheri

Great subject!! In today’s world it (MIS) Multiple Income Stream) is a necessity. Your very survival and level of living will be in direct coloration to your earning potential. But the secret resides in the structure of that work to income ratio. "It doesn't matter how much you make. Even if you make $500,000 a year if you have to show up to make it, you're still a slave...you just have a gilded cage" Malcom Forbes There are many ways, and many levels, to play in this field. If you fail to plan you are planning to fail.

Hi Linda, I firmly believe that the way you're going about it ~ getting one business established before you begin on another is the only way to proceed. I've seen too many people who try to start several businesses at once and fail in all of them because they can't focus on so much at one time. What you say about not putting all of your eggs in one basket is also true. I have two businesses and belong to a few affiliate programs. However, I started out with just one business. I found that I didn't want to have to depend on that for the rest of my working life because it's so labor intensive. From there I started a business that provides residual income. My goal is that, eventually, that second business will provide a good income so that I can cut back on the hours I spend on my initial business. The affiliate programs are a good source of "extra" money. As you say, what works for one person may not work for another but this method has proven successful for me. With things set up this way, I feel I have the best of two worlds. Linda O

I never believe it either. Because ppl that are the big heads in an MLM company for products or services make other streams of income on marketing tools, leads, etc. So ppl just focus on a MLM business offline, and a neutral business like business tools, etc.. online. I don't see too many people that do not have other streams.. even if they are small.. like google.
