Who to report scams & con emails to!
3/26/2006 3:10:38 PM
Hello again. A lot of people ask me what emails are scams & cons, a lot send the emails to me for verification. I do not mind doing this at all but at present with Pam so ill, it will take me sometime to reply to you.. So with that in mind, I have found examples of the typical types of fraudulent emails you may well receive on a daily basis, with tips on where to report them. Latest Scams Fraudulent Messages From "PayPal"
Ignore any messages from PayPal asking you to confirm your account info, password, social security number, etc. Remember that any message from PayPal will address you by your first and last name -- they will NEVER address you as "Dear PayPal User" or "Dear PayPal Member." Also, PayPal will NEVER ask you for account info, password, Social Security number, or other private information by e-mail. And NEVER click on a link within the email. What to do?
Forward these messages to uce@ftc.gov Report to FBI at http://www.ic3.gov , Forward on to PayPal at spoof@paypal.com then delete. Fraudulent Messages From "ebay"

Ignore any messages from Citizens Bank or other similar institutions asking you to update your account info online. No reputable institution will ever ask for this kind of information via the internet, and it's possible that simply clicking on the link provided will infect your computer with viruses, spyware and/or adware. What to do?
Forward these messages to uce@ftc.gov Report to FBI at http://www.ic3.gov , then delete. "Invoices" from Domain Registry or Liberty Names.
Ignore any e-mailed or hard copy "invoices" from Domain Registry of America or Liberty Names of America asking you to "renew" your domain name registration. This is a ploy to get you to give them money to transfer your domain name to their company and extend the registration period for one year -- at twice the usual price. These folks are now being sued for their deceptive practices. What to do?
Report to FBI at http://www.ic3.gov Delete or destroy the invoice. Messages Accusing You of Violating the Patriot Act.
This message frightens you into clicking on the provided link to "correct" your FDIC/bank account information. This action will more than likely infect your computer with viruses, spyware and/or adware. What to do?

Suggesting you accept payments for helping to transfer large amounts of money from Nigerian Banks to American, or European banks. Known as the 419 scam, these badly spelled emails still generate millions of dollars in cash from unsuspecting guilible, greedy people who think they are going to earn an easy buck. What to do?
Forward these emails to 419report@gmail.com then delete. Any type of phishing, spam, con or fraud email sent to you with a Yahoo address Forward these emails to Abuse@yahoo.com Then delete. There are different variations of sorts to all these examples. Checking the Federal Trade Commissions (FTC) http://ftc.gov website will also give you lots more examples & plenty of warnings of how to be more secure on line. I hope that answers a lot of questions which due to time constrictions with Pam, I cannot answer very quickly at present. Your Security Friend in Las Vegas.

Hi Anthony, Don't forget the "sweet" looking ones that are reporting a missing child are something. I recieved one this week that was identical to one I recieved a year ago. These don't ask for your personal info, but they do give spammers an opportunity to get your email addy! The latest. A girl, 9 years old named Penny Brown. Amber Alert was the title. I found it online from 1997! Always check these out online before forwarding and if you do forward, make sure you use the bcc for email addy's so that you don't send your friends email addy to spammers! Good luck, Angela
