Hello, Dave! Great article and I loved it. I like the winning too, but enjoy the process more. I also get my best ideas and solutions when I'm not "working" on the project or problem. Dad calls it fluid thinking. Thanks for republishing this article, Kate

Great article Dave. I'm not competitive enough to always "win". I had a co-worker who used to try competing with me to do better than I did at something. I told her I am not into competing, I just work hard and do my best. I focus on my efforts. Of course when it comes to professional football, I get upset when my team loses, LOL. DonnaZ

Hi Dave, I agree with you, but just agreeing is one thing. I also like to read what other people enjoy in their lives to relax and live a quality life. Talking of birds, we have a lot in and around our garden. It is very cold now,not like the warm weather in your neck of the woods and one of the pleasures of my days in this winter weather is to feed our birds. They are so thankful, really thankful, and although it is bitter cold they wake me up every morning with the most beautiful songs. We have a robbin that taps on our office window every morning, reminding me to leave the e-mail and clean the bird table and feed him and his friends. This is a ritual we have which is only broken when we are away from home. A small act of love and care really takes one´s mind off the "winning formula". Our Elks enjoy a few apples that I put out for them during the winter months. Even if they tramp around the flower beds, it is a fantastic experience to watch these "Kings of the Forest"enjoying their breakfast in the early hours. These small experiences give me life quality and help me relax. There is such a lot to learn from Wild Animals and Birds. Thank you very muh for sharing your thoughts on having a GREAT life.

Hi Dave, Very good essay...I agree with you. My kids are all grown & on their own now, but those times when I was just interacting with Bri, Gina or Nathan, still bring back very good memories for me. I am very blessed to have so many good memories of my kids. Residual rewards....! What's even better, the kids also remember those times and that makes them feel good too. Residuals for my children as well. No price, wage or amount of money can compensate for my time with my children, grandchildren, family & friends. I may not be a millionaire, but I sure am rich in what I consider really counts. Thanks for sharing Dave! Gary had some great points as well. Lorraine

Dave, What a wonderful piece! It is also so very true. The 'Winning is not everything, it's how you play the game' phrase, I belive originated with the English national Cricket team, then was sadly taken up by the English National Soccer team as a reason why the had become so bad at 'winning' the games that had originated in England. Thankfully the English rugby team has never suffered from this disillusion & now, judging by what little reports I hear about my ex-countrys sports hear in America, the Cricket & Soccer national teams have finally realised that winning is quite a nice feeling..... Of course in business, winning is NOT everything, as you quite rightly point out, It takes too much away from the family life & does tend to drive a wedge in realationships, something which I am never going to contemplate doing ever again. I have now organised my working week to start at 7am on Monday/Friday morning's & finish at 5.00pm Monday/Friday evening's. Weekends are for enjoying life with my darling Pam & our family. Work, specially work involving the Internet does take over your life, sadly this wonderful community here at Adlandpro can too, in fact somedays it can make a big dent in the working day....... So, Dave.. You are so right, stepping back & viewing things from a distance does make things clearer... Your Security Friend in Las Vegas.
