Linda,
I must have had the most over-protective parents in the world!
I was born with double-dislocated hips, and I was not "allowed" to do anything! All I ever heard was "You can't, because you could get hurt!" "You can't, because you're a girl." "You can't because the doctor said you couldn't."
I should really be a whiner, but I'm not.
This year, even though we're only into February, is turning out better and better for me! I was named as "Who's Who" in my hometown, nominated and elected to be included in the new "Who's Who" book published by MarquisWhosWho.com. It will be available in June. When I got the notice, I was shocked, to say the least!
It will finally be "my way" of getting back at those who told me I would never amount to anything, that I was "lazy", "stupid",
"just a girl", and dang it, but I wish my Dad was still alive to see it!
I'll be giving copies as gifts for Christmas this year!
I'm too old to go sticking my tongue out, but that's what I want to do! (And that'd be my ADD talking! LOL)
I managed the entire operation of my dad's farm the last 5 years of his life because he was too weak to take care of it. I netted him an income of $12,000 a year just from the sale of a few goats. If he'd had more land, I could've made more. (I want 250 acres, 2 full-blood Boer billies and 400 1/2 Boer, 1/2 Nubian does!)
I've been 1500 feet off the ground on scaffolding, welding on a boiler at a power plant. Took that job just for the heck of it -- learned quite a bit, and definitely earned my pay.
My doctor told me "get a desk job" -- I waited tables and cooked for 20 years.
He also said "The only sport you can play is golf." YAWN I roller skate, swim, hike up in the mountains, rock climb, and have wrestled with 150 lb. animals to give them shots!
Write a website now being used at two outstanding medical schools -- How A+ cool is that!!
I am single-handedly remodeling my home. Why? Because, a can-do attitude mixed with common sense, following safety rules, and keeping tools in tip-top shape says I can!
Can you guess my motto?
