Linda, Are you a misfit, or do you have ADD (Attention Deficeit Disorder)? I recently found out I do. Can't sit still, find it difficult to focus, or hyperfocus if I'm really interested --- It's either black or white with no inbetween. I've been told all my life to "act normal" so I suppose the title "Misfit" suits me. I've also wondered all my life why everyone was shocked with what I said or did--It wasn't "stupid" or "crazy" or "insane" to me! LOL As for stirring things up, I do all the time -- it's the way I function. As for my passions, creating jewelry hypnotizes me! Researching and writing about information on the similarities between heart disease symptoms, epilepsy, and other diseases keeps me awake at night. The same goes for getting back to posting in forums, which I've not done in a while, and I'm now trying to catch up! Denise Babbit

Speaking of stirring things up....

Hi Denise; ========================================== Are you a misfit, or do you have ADD (Attention Deficeit Disorder)? I recently found out I do. Can't sit still, find it difficult to focus, or hyperfocus if I'm really interested --- It's either black or white with no inbetween. As for stirring things up, I do all the time... ========================================== Speaking of stirring things up, want to entertain some radically different thoughts? Do I have A.D.D.? Well - I would if I believed in it, but it's hard to "have" something that one does not believe exists. When I had a "doctor" tell me that my daughter and I both have A.D.D., I told her that I've filed A.D.D. in the same file as the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy. Here's why... 1) Most people with A.D.D. have very high I.Q. This is not a deficit. 2) Most people with A.D.D. have trouble focusing on things that are boring or not of interest. Still not seeing a problem... 3) Most people with A.D.D. can do multiple things at once. We pay more for computers that have that capacity. More ram. More capability. So why would it be a drawback in a human? Seems like the folks who can't walk and chew gum are the ones with the deficit. 4) Most people with A.D.D. can hyperfocus when they are really interested. Does that mean people who don't have A.D.D. can't focus as well as those who do? So, which is the deficit? Hmm? 5) If Big Pharma can convince doctors and legislators to call something an illness or disease, they can make billions selling a drug for it. I don't play that game. 6) Plenty of studies show that the vast majority of people with "A.D.D." lose the hyperactive and restless traits when they reduce or remove white processed sugar from their diet. Matter of fact, it gets hard to tell who has A.D.D. and who doesn't. But then again, Big Pharma doesn't make any money if we just cut back on sugar, right? And if removing sugar from the diet makes it hard to tell A.D.D. people from non A.D.D. people, does A.D.D. really exist? Heck, maybe people of high IQ are hyper sensitive to sugar. Darned if I know. But the studies on sugar and A.D.D. do make one question it. 7) Doctors (and schools in some areas) get financial kickbacks from Big Pharma for every child that is put on A.D.D. medication. After I finished explaining all the above to the good doctor, I said, "So... my I.Q. is in the 98th percentile. My daughter's is in the 96th. (she was 12 then) What's yours?" She laughed. I winked and left. So - nope - I don't have A.D.D. Can't have something that I don't believe in. Personally, I think A.D.D. is just a name that Big Pharma has created for people that are very smart - and probably eat too much sugar... So there you go. Talk about stirring things up, hey? : ) Linda

Ohhhhh! I have to agree with you on this one Linda. It's even more prevelant in schools. Our son was referred to a psychologist because the school thought he had A.D.D.. What amazed me is that the doctor concurred with the school after a 2 minute interview with him. Imagine! Two minutes, no testing of any kind and he wanted to prescribe mind altering drugs! Needless to say, that didn't happen! LOL After having testing done ourselves. We come to find that he is very intelligent. Doctors believe that the trouble he's having in school is because he is bored to death! We're currently having him tested now to see what our best route to take with his education should be.

Boy I liked this conversation on A.D.D. I also agree that it has more to do with too much sugar and bored kids. But I have another story that I think fits in with this misfit thread and since we have so many amazing minds that post to Linda's forums I'd like to bring it up. I'd say my son is in the misfit category. When he was in ninth grade he read Rich Dad Poor Dad and it changed his goals in life. Of course that caused static between him and his Dad. My husband is of the "Go to school and get a good job" mindset. Which is fine for most. Levi is very driven in what he wants to accomplish and when friends his age were playing he was on the computer soaking up everything he could find on business and internet marketing. He thought he was in luck when he found a college that catered to entrepreneurship and was blown away by what he thought the school was going to be. Now he is in his third year and has yet to find a reason to stay there. He mentions suicide and I don't think it would come to that but I still hate to hear it. He feels he hasn't learned anything but what he's read in books and thinks it is wasting his time being in a place he hates when he could be building his business. I'm a mother who just wants her son to be happy but my husband wants him to stick it out. I need objective thoughts so I can handle this situation a little better. Thanks. Martha
