"Trust that little voice in your head that says "Wouldn't it be interesting if..."; And then do it." A little saying I have posted across the top of my computer monitor. Thought it was fitting.

You said something of great importance that few people pay attention too. But you left out one thing. These people never quit or are they swayed by the nay sayers. They always look forward even in times of trouble, and self questioning they hang on to the vision and they will get on their soapbox even when criticised. People with vision are not easilly swayed from their goal. No matter how ludicris it seems. They push on and eventually perservere. Hang in there as they said in my youth.

Hi Linda, An excellent poem full of truth. Thank you for sharing it with us all. I think that the frustrating thing experienced by all creators, inventors and researchers is that it is so easy for the masses just to say: "Oh, I could never do that." What they really mean is that they can't be bothered doing it. Laziness, lack of desire, no motivation. To take one of your examples, Linda, I regularly hear people tell me that they could never emulate what I do in my self defence classes. True. They cannot - because they cannot immediately put 35 years of knowledge, training and experience into their heads and bodies. But... ... they can improve from where they are now. I started at "ground zero" once too. The INSTANT GRATIFICATION that people seek nowadays is their ruination. They only want what they want now! IMMEDIATELY! Anything less than that and they reject it. It's too hard. It takes too long. There is too much effort involved. Instant success is what we are conditioned to seek. Virtually all advertizing carries this message. Have now, pay later. How many people brew tea in a kettle now? They don't. They use a tea bag. How many people wait until they can afford an item now? They don't. They just add to the burgeoning balance of their credit card. We have an instant expectation of everything. One day somebody will create the ultimate invention - an expertise chip or pill that will load directly into the brain. Want to be an expert accountant? Easy. Insert the Accounting 101 chip. Want to be a self defence expert? Easy. Insert the SD chip. Want to be a website expert? easy again. Just insert the WE chip. Heaven help us if and when that happens. As I said, instant gratification is a malaise. It is the cancer that destroys creativity. And so, to the inventors and creators, most people wonder what drives them, briefly. Achievers make others look lazy. It's easier to dismiss them as weirdos. Ta-da! Problem solved. All of a sudden a non-achiever doesn't feel so bad any more. Instant gratification once again! We need more "misfits." Rant over! Gary Simpson.
