This is outstanding..

Roger

This painting is not just well composed and executed but gives a real feel of the place.

Just wonderful.

Roger

I gather you enlarged the photo, the feel is so intensified. Like you get into the scene: just unbelievable.

Art, composition, color, and superb skills combine for another gem of a landscape (or "lyrical" landscape) by Alexei Savrasov.

Alexei Savrasov - The Pechersk Monastery near Nizhni Novgorod
(oil on canvas, 1871)

This one is my favorite. It looks so inviting.

Alexei Savrasov was such a fine artist. The more paintings of his that I get to know, the better I appreciate and admire him. Such a pity that he set himself in a course that drove him down into a life of suffering.

Yes Miguel.

It is sad that many artists seem to have a self-destruct tendency.

Some artists find themselves in trouble because art is important beyond all else but in this case it seems to be that he allowed the tradgedies in his life to destroy his will to continue in his sucessful career.

I look forward to more.

Winter Night is one of my favourites.

Up to here I have posted Savrasov's works a bit by chance, but a little order will only improve their presentation. The one on top is his earliest I have been able to find. And the one at the bottom, of simple but inspiring beauty, is of ten years later.

I find it difficult to say which painting I prefer here. Maybe the top one? The work on the clouds is so beautiful. But then, the other painting is no less awesome - in its own style.

Alexei Savrasov - View of the Kremlin from the Krymsky Bridge
in Inclement Weather
(oil on canvas, 1851)
