At the same time, Goya would keep painting outstanding portraits of important people - mostly of the nobility - but, as usual, without any other embellishing elements than those strictly necessary (like rich clothes, et cetera).

Hi Miguel,

This one is absolutely stunning! I'm very impressed with the brightness shining on the central area, highlighting the details of their clothing, this is an extremely detailed painting!

I guess I can post now Goya's extraordinary portrait of the Royal Family of Spain in about 1800. According to the description at Wikipedia: "Man in the shadows in background at left is Goya himself. Others, left to right (all dates are birth-death): Carlos Maria Isidro (1788-1855); the future Fernando VII (1784-1833); Maria Josefa (1744-1801), sister of Carlos IV; Ferdinand's future wife - it was unknown who she would be by the time the work was created; María Isabel (1789-1848); Queen Maria Luisa (1751-1819); Francisco de Paula (1794-1848); King Carlos IV (1748-1819); Don Antonio Pascual, brother of the King (1755-1817); Carlota Joaquina (1775-1830, only part of head visible); Don Luis de Parma (1773-1803) and his wife Maria Luisa(1782-1824), holding baby Carlos Luis (1799-1883), the future Duke of Parma.

Hi Kathleen,

I am so glad that you have visited and posted. You are right, the painting is awesome, and so your comment on Goya's detail on the central area is most precise. I even was wondering how long Goya might have taken to complete such a detailed master work, but then I realized that whatever time he spent on it was time well invested, and on the other hand, the brightness shining on that area is rather a qualitative conception than a quantitative one; or in other words, it is bright in itself (sorry if this assertion of mine is somewhat obscure itself, lol).

Again, thanks for visiting and posting.

Miguel

Of the three below portraits, especially one has become widely known in time. Guess which? Yes, the one at the bottom: that of Isabel de Porcel, out of which hundreds, if not thousands oil reproductions have been sold worldwide to this date.

Francisco de Goya - Portrait of Antonia Zárate
(oil on canvas, c.1805)

Francisco de Goya - Bartolomé Sureda y Miserol
(oil on canvas, 1804-06)

Francisco de Goya - Doña Isabel de Porcel
(oil on canvas, 1804-05)

Of course, not all Goya's paintings were portraits. He would also paint the occasional popular scenes that while not as famous as the former, would contribute to his popularity as well. Here are two outstanding ones.

Francisco de Goya - Pilgrimage to the Church of San Isidro
(oil on canvas, 1788)

Francisco de Goya - The Wedding
(oil on canvas, 1791 - 1792)
