We have arrived at the year in which Goya painted his emblematic The Third of May of 1808: The Execution of the Defenders of Madrid - a work which, among other consequences, would force him to look for the exile in France. Even though it was shown on the first page of this thread, I am showing it again but with an enlargement of its main character.

One year later, in 1815, he was painting the self portrait that would, in time, become his most celebrated ever. The years show in it.

Other self portraits - actually earlier ones - include these two below that while not as impressive as those already presented along this thread, are nevertheless outstanding.

Over the years, Goya had kept painting equally outstanding portraits of the royal family, as this beautiful masterpiece attests.

You have found so many pictures that I have never seen.

To put together a group picture is so much more difficult than most people imagine.

These look very real.
