Goya may have been passionate about the humble people, but at least until he exiled in France, he never ceased to socialize with the rich and noble, even kings, whom he would portray both magnificently and realistically.

Two years later, Goya would create this extraordinary masterpiece - indeed, a magnificent portrait.

The compositions are superb. The amount of observation and skill involved is incredible.

It is an age long past and we gain an intimate glimpse.

Goya painted several great portraits of Fernando VII, but none as magnificent as this which I am pleased to show at this thread.
