Amanda now you're talking my kind of things. It's hard to find personal care products without the harmful chemicals. I have been using a bar of glycerin bath soap and now too with a well I don't have chlorine and fluoride in my water. I would love to fine a good chemical free shower gel. I have been buying my shampoo at Sally's Beauty Supply and according to the label there aren't supposed to be any harmful chemicals in it. Coconut oil has a lot of beneficial things in it. Good luck with making these and keep us informed on how everything goes.

Hello Everyone,

I have been gathering ingredients to make my own soap, laundry power or liquid laundry soap, dish washing liquid soap and deodorant, because I reckon I can make it more healthy for my body without all the extra chemicals that manufactured soaps do to my skin, breathing etc - and much cheaper.

So this evening I made my first deodorant and poured into an empty washed out stick canister that you roll the wheel on the bottom to raise up the stick to use.

Here is the ingredients:
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup corn starch or arrowroot powder (I used corn starch)
2 teaspoons coconut oil
a drop or two of fragrance oil

I placed the two dry ingredients in a small saucepan which I had warmed on the burner then dropped in the two teaspoons of coconut oil. It melted the ingredients into a pour-able paste in no time - I did not have any fragrance oils, so it is plain.
I had previously rolled down the tray in the canister so I poured carefully and it all fit then popped it into the fridge for about 30 minutes and it was set and tidied up any drips and put the lid on the solid home made deodorant and placed on the counter in the bathroom.

The second method I saw, that you might be interested in too..
1/4 cup powdered arrowroot or cornstarch
1/4 cup baking soda
6 - 8 teaspoons coconut oil
fragrance oil for scent
1 jar with a lid - about the size of a moisturizer jar.

In a bowl place the two dry ingredients, add about 4 teaspoons of coconut oil and blend into the ingredients - add more coconut oil as needed to produce a thick paste.
Add the fragrance oil and blend in then spoon out into a jar and screw on the lid.

Hi Evelyn, and friends,

Your stories are beautiful with those special people. I think there is one in everyone's town. We have one too. They always have so much love to give

Amanda you are a treasure, love your deodorant. I never thought of making it, but now I will do that too. Thanks for the info

Amanda I think you could sell your items at flea markets or farmers markets and craft shows and just market them as being homemade. You could have labels made up listing the ingredients and I think you would probably be OK. I've seen people sell things like this at flea markets and even craft shows. They go over very well at craft shows especially if they're packaged attractively. My daughter used to make hair ribbons and bows and she did have a tax number and that is another thing, there are a lot of tax advantages with owning your own small business.

Hi Kathleen,

The deodorant I made, I reckon would be better for James as it is unscented and I would like to made another with fragrance oil to lightly scent for me.
Funny you say, I should make and sell - this is what James said to me too when I was telling him over the phone I had found an easy looking recipe.
He even thought up the brand name for me.
The trouble with selling products under this Govt at present, there are too many hoops one has to jump through - they are just over the top with their regulations and even anything natural is just about a jail-able offense

Hi Amanda,

You could sell containers of that, lots of people want natural products. I've seen a lot of natural bath soaps and shampoo online, but yours is the first deoderant recipe I've seen! At first I thought it was laundry soap, had to go back and read it.

Thank you Myrna, you're special too you know. All of my friends are special, that's why they're my friends. :) That is one of the most beautiful graphics I've ever seen and the verse speaks volumes. :)

I was going to post this here earlier but then got into the conversations about special people and natural products...here's one of my favorite songs, I love all versions of it and this is a new one from the past week on TV, it's stunning, these young women sound wonderful together and individually:

This was recently aired on the TV show "Glee" earlier this week, these 4 young women give a breathtaking performance of one of my favorite songs, "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" (I found the lyrics for this performance online, with the characters names below!)

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face: New Directions girls "ND Girls" from GLEE

[Rachel:]
The first time, ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes

[Tina:]
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave

[Tina with ND Girls:]
To the dark, and the endless skies, my Love.

[Santana:]
And the first time, ever I lay with you
I felt your heart so close to mine

[Mercedes:]
And I knew our joy, would fill the earth

[Tina with ND Girls:]
And last, til the end of time, my Love.

[Rachel:]
The first time, ever I saw

[Tina with New Directions Girls:]
Your face
[Mercedes with New Directions Girls:]
Your face
[Santana with New Directions Girls:]
Your face
[Rachel with New Directions Girls:]
Your face
