WOW! Evelyn is awake! ..
I make bus drivers smile. Did you know that most bus drivers hate their job? And they can look pretty grouchy sometimes. So it is my challenge to see if I can get them to smile and you know, it isn't all that difficult. As soon as I get on the bus, if I notice the driver is grouchy-looking, I immediately give him a big smile, say 'hi' and ask how he is today. Almost everytime, I get a smile back.
I've had drivers who actually glare at people and they don't smile no matter what so if I get a chance, I try to strike up a conversation with them once the bus starts moving. I have a story ready, perhaps.
Since I ride in the evening a lot, I tell them about the moon sometimes.
My conversation might go something like this....
Q: How has your day been? [Or "The weather was great today, wasn't it?"] They usually reply.
If it is the time near the full moon, I might say something about the full moon coming and ask if he finds people are more strange during full moon. Then I give him the "Moon Story ...by Helen"
"Did you know, " I say, "that in that week before full moon you can almost always count on a few clear days of sunshine and no rain, even in the middle of winter when it normally rains a lot?" Our weather in the Vancouver BC area is much like Seattle weather. We get a lot of rain.
I continue, "That is what happens in the week BEFORE full moon. You might notice that as soon as the full moon is out, it starts to cloud over, especially in the winter, and it starts raining again. You can almost always count on it but there are always exceptions to the rule, of course."
I suggest, "When you are expecting company, you might suggest that they come in that week before the full moon. Hopefully, they will get a few nice sunny days during their visit."
I offer, "I know this because I used to have to dry my clothes outside because I didn't have a dryer. I remembered about this clear weather time before the moon from when I was a kid on the farm. So I'd make a point of washing most of my clothes in that week before full moon."
I don't just tell my moon story to grouchy drivers. I tell it to others, too, of course. It gives drivers something to watch for on their working days.
Now isn't this a post you needed to hear :)) Ok, maybe not. What brought it on, was the image below.

Hello Everyone
It's time for LOVE. This time it is for children. If you go to the 5 Languages website, you'll find books about this topic for teens and children.
You would think I make a commission or something from this but I don't make a dime. I just hope the information will be helpful for marriages and families ...and even workplaces.

Write sticky notes of affirmation and stick them on the fridge, mirror, front door, and anywhere else your child will see. Describe not just what you appreciate about what they do, but who they are.
Children often have trouble keeping their room clean. This weekend, offer to help them clean their room or organize their clothes. Not only will it help then feel loved, it will give you some peace of mind.
Even if it isn't their primary love language, most kids enjoy gifts. Go to the local dollar store or candy shop. Pick out a handful of small items you think he/she will enjoy and give it to them at a special moment.
Take some time out to turn off the phone and take your child to the park, play a video game together, talk, read a book, or go on a special outing together. Talk about whatever they want to talk about. Remember to really listen and pay close attention to what they have to say.
Spins, hugs, back scratches, tossing the hair all communicate love to a child whose primary love language is physical touch. Moms, paint your daughters toe nails. Dads, take your son to the park and play some basketball. Don't shy away from your child. Your appropriate touch makes them feel secure and loved.
Do you know a unique or fun way of speaking someone's love language? If so, we want to hear from you...
