Leaked Memo Reveals Wall Street Plot To Undermine OWS

MSNBC program “Up w/ Chris Hayes” recently obtained a memo from a well-known Washington lobbying firm to its client, the American Bankers Association, that reveals its fear of the growing Occupy Wall Street movement.

The memo is written on the letterhead of the lobbying firm Clark Lytle Geduldig & Cranford. In it, the firm proposes that for a mere $850,000, it will conduct “opposition research” on Occupy Wall Street in order to construct “negative narratives” about the protests and the politicians who support it.

According to the memo, if Democrats embrace OWS, “This would mean more than just short-term political discomfort for Wall Street. … It has the potential to have very long-lasting political, policy and financial impacts on the companies in the center of the bullseye.”

The memo also suggests that Democratic victories in 2012 should not be the ABA’s biggest concern. “… (T)he bigger concern,” the memo says, “should be that Republicans will no longer defend Wall Street companies.”

The memo also points out something even more terrifying than Obama getting re-elected: the idea that OWS and the Tea Party might stop bickering and realize they have more than one issue in common.

“Well-known Wall Street companies stand at the nexus of where OWS protestors and the Tea Party overlap on angered populism,” the memo says. “…This combination has the potential to be explosive later in the year when media reports cover the next round of bonuses and contrast it with stories of millions of Americans making do with less this holiday season.”

This memo proves what we’ve known all along: a unified 99% terrifies the 1 %. Big corporations, their Wall Street allies, and the politicians who profit off of their greed have been exposed for what they are: thieves and liars who deserve to pay the price for their crimes.

This memo also demonstrates that it is the desire of these criminals to keep the country divided and bickering. They want us to focus on small, petty, moralistic issues that have nothing to do with political policy or regulation. They want us to fight among ourselves so we won’t realize what’s really going on.

Oops, too late.

WE ARE THE 99%. THIS IS OUR COUNTRY. WE HAVE DIVERSE BELIEFS, OPINIONS, POLITICAL PREFERENCES, AND LIFESTYLES, BUT WE AGREE ONN ONE THING: WE WILL NOT BE EXPLOITED ANY LONGER. WE ARE HERE, AND WE ARE WATCHING.

hi Luis. of course wallstreet and banks are afraid of Occupy Wallstreet movement because they fear MILLIONS of Americans turning on these corrupt banks and companies.

Whatever happens next, Occupy Wall Street has already accomplished something that changes everything. It has fundamentally altered the national conversation. Now that millions recognize the injustice resulting from the power of Wall Street and giant corporations, that issue will not go away. The movement has made this the central question in the mind of millions: Will we build a society to benefit everyone? Or just the 1 percent? This question will be the subtext for the election season and for policy debates at all levels of government.

"A group of people started camping out in Zuccotti Park, and all of a sudden the conversation started being about the right things," says New York Times columnist Paul Krugman. "It's kind of a miracle."

The world becomes a very different place when members of the 99 percent stood up. The revolts in Egypt, elsewhere in the Middle East, and in Europe belie the story that popular uprisings are futile. The people who occupied Zuccotti Park in lower Manhattan and are still occupying public spaces across the country show that Americans, too, can take a stand.

People who've experienced the power of having a voice will not easily go back to silence. People who've found political self-respect will work hard to avoid a return to isolation and powerlessness. The 99% are no longer sitting on the sidelines of history. The Occupy Wall Street movement gives us reason to believe that we the people can take charge of our destinies.

This isn't leaked information it is just basically what many have been saying all along. The focus has been on our differences instead of what we agree on. We just keep getting played against one another on our disagreements. Hell no one wants Wake Up in the morning but we do sooner or later.

Thank you again Pat for your new important contribution. But to me, not only is significant that wallstreet and banks are afraid of Occupy Wallstreet movement because they fear millions of Americans turning on these corrupt banks and companies: beyond that, perhaps equally or still more significant is that thanks to the American people the entire world will most certainly never turn back again to be the same.

Hugs, Miguel
