New Moon Phase – Moon in Taurus/Gemini

Ruling Mahavidya - Tara

Today’s picture was taken J. Schoeppmeyer by of the Solar Eclipse over Australia and posted on spaceweather.com.

We pick up even more speed as the Moon moves into fast and airy Gemini today. The tendency is toward carelessness, superficiality, impulsivity, derelection, and a know-it-all attitude. We don’t want to get swept up with any sort of mindset that hints of hopelessness. So we will counter with closer attention to details, patience, and a general slowing of the pace.

The Mahavidya Tara comes on scene later today. I would like to remind everyone that most of what you read about the Mahavidyas in “ancient” Hindu texts or on the internet is patriarchal/control-oriented distortions of the truth. The Mahavidyas are not Hindu. Hindu religion assimilated them, just as all religions subjugate indigenious deities when people are conquered. The Mahavidyas pre-date Hinduism by a long, long shot. We can, however, distill their essential natures through very loose association with prevailing ideas and engaging in direct communication or instruction with them. The Ten Mahavidyas: Tantric Visions of the Divine Feminine by David Kinsley is a scholarly (albeit patriarchal) collection of Mahavidya information, but is the best I have read.

The goddess embodied as the planet, Sophia, communicates with each of us in different ways. She communicates directly, but her preferred method for general instruction and communication is through a “step down” process. She steps down into the persona of the goddess Kali, and then in turn through the personae of Kali - the other Mahavidyas.

Of all the Mahavidyas, Tara is said to be most akin to Kali. In my interactions, Kali has very dark skin and Tara very light skin. Kali is intense at all times; Tara has an almost genteel quality until she is pushed to activate her ferocity. To me, Tara is very “Scarlet O’Hara-ish” – without the damsel in distress aspect. None of the Mahavidyas is a damsel in distress, by any means. Tara is playful, flirtatious, and wily and she loves beautiful things, but she will engage in a flash and strike down darkness.

There is a Tibetan version of Tara and a Hindu version of Tara, so if you research you will see that the versions are diametrically opposed. We immediately see the schism of patriarchy.

Tara is known as the “Goddess Who Guides Through Troubles.” Isn’t this exactly the energy we need right now?

I will be joining the Zany Mystic himself, Lance White, tomorrow night on “A Fireside Chat” at 10 pm ET/ 7 pm CT. All are invited!

Israel moving ahead with new settler housing

Associated Press/Andrew Medichini - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, left, is greeted by Italian Premier Enrico Letta, upon his arrival at Rome's Chigi government palace, Thursday, May 9, 2013. Kerry is in Rome for a two-day visit. Kerry said Wednesday he would depart in two weeks on another trip to the Middle East to push peace between Israel and the Palestinians. (AP Photo/Andrew Medichini)

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel has given preliminary approval to build nearly 300 housing units in aWest Bank settlement, a spokesman said Thursday, bringing a Palestinian rebuke and possibly complicating U.S. efforts to relaunch Mideast peace talks.

The approval came as U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry met with Israel's chief negotiator in Rome. The negotiator, Justice Minister Tzipi Livni played down the new housing approval.

Maj. Guy Inbar, a military spokesman, said 296 homes in the Beit El settlement were granted initial approval Wednesday. The plan would still need further official endorsement following public appeals, and activists projected that construction could begin in about a year if it passes.

Earlier this week, both settlement supporters and opponents claimed that Israel had quietly halted issuing tenders for new settlement construction in recent months, in an apparent bid to bolster Kerry's diplomacy.

West Bank settlement construction lies at the heart of the current impasse in negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. The Palestinians refuse to resume talks with Israel as long as it continues to build in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, lands they claim as part of a future state, along with the Gaza Strip. Israel captured the territories in the 1967 Mideast war.

The Beit El construction is part of an agreement on compensation offered to settlers uprooted from their homes in the unauthorized Ulpana outpost last year following a court ruling.

Speaking on Israel Army Radio ahead of her return from Italy, Livni said Israel explained the context of the new housing approval to U.S. officials in a bid to pre-emptively ease tensions that could disrupt Kerry's efforts.

"We updated the Americans immediately to tell them that this is what is at issue, and therefore there is no cause for drama or anger," Livni said.

Palestinians charged Israel was harming American attempts at restarting negotiations.

"This is an attempt to sabotage the efforts exerted by President Obama and Secretary Kerry to revive the peace process and is a message that the Israeli government is not serious about peace," said Nabil Abu Rdeneh, a spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Israel contends that peace talks should resume with no preconditions and that the fate of the settlements should be on the negotiating table.

Also Thursday, an Israeli rights group published a report claiming that most Palestinians killed during an Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip last year were civilians.

Israel launched dozens of airstrikes in Gaza to try to put a stop to near-daily rocket salvos by Palestinian militants at southern Israel. During the exchange, Palestinians fired hundreds of rockets at Israel, reaching as far as Tel Aviv, the heart of Israel's largest metropolitan area.

B'Tselem tallied fatalities from the November fighting, saying out of 167 people killed, 87 did not take part in the violence. The report said 62 killed were combatants and seven were killed in assassinations. The affiliation of 11 people was unknown.

The group said most of the civilians were killed during the second half of the eight-day offensive and demanded an explanation.

The numbers were similar to figures compiled by The Associated Press, which reported 161 Palestinians killed, including 71 civilians, during the fighting. Six Israelis, including four civilians, were also killed.

In response to Thursday's report, the Israeli military said civilian casualties were either a result of collateral damage or because of a mistaken strike.

Israel accuses Hamas and other Gaza militant groups of putting civilians in danger by using residential areas, schools and mosques for cover to carry out attacks.

US Government Could Be World’s Biggest Hacker

Reuters/Kacper Pempel

Reuters/Kacper Pempel

Stephen: in reading this story, I suggest you take the view that ‘government’ may not necessarily mean authorised government and that all ‘hacks’ are not necessarily ‘exploitative’. Some are benefitting the unveiling of many truths.

The US Government Might be the Biggest Hacker in the World

From RT.com – May 10, 2013

http://rt.com/usa/us-hacking-exploits-millions-104/

The United States government is investing tens of millions of dollars each year on offensive hacking operations in order to exploit vulnerabilities in the computers of its adversaries, Reuters reports.

According to an in-depth article published Friday by journalist Joseph Menn, the US and its Department of Defense contractors are increasingly pursuing efforts to hack the computers of foreign competitors, in turn exposing a rarely discussed aspect of the nation’s clandestine cyber operations.

In a time when the government continues to prosecute alleged domestic computer criminals — so much so that demands for technology law reform have been rampant as of late — Menn says the US is guilty of spending millions on discovering, identifying and exploiting previously unknown security flaws, often gaining unfettered access to the systems and networks of international targets.

As a result, the US has become one of the world’s top players in regards to wreaking havoc over the Internet — even as calls to investigate foreign hackers increase in Congress.

On Tuesday, a bipartisan supported proposal was introduced in Congress specifically to protect US commercial data from being compromised by foreign hackers. According to Menn, however, the American government is just as guilty of cybercrimes as the countries it warns against in introducing the “Deter Cyber Theft Act.”

“Even as the US government confronts rival powers over widespread Internet espionage, it has become the biggest buyer in a burgeoning gray market where hackers and security firms sell tools for breaking into computers,” Menn wrote.

In his report, Menn explained that a large chunk of the country’s current cyber endeavors does not rely on defensive strategy as one might imagine, but instead involves offensive operations launched with the intent of causing harm on the computers of adversaries.

Menn wrote defense contractors “spend at least tens of millions of dollars a year” on simply researching exploits that, if pursued, could put the eyes and ears of the American intelligence company essentially anywhere in the world.

And although the US has not officially gone on the record to acknowledge these shadowy operations, Menn wrote that the nation’s most well-known cyber endeavor — the Stuxnet worm that targeted Iranian nuclear plants — is just one example of the budding attempts to attack foreign entities.

“Computer researchers in the public and private sectors say the US government, acting mainly through defense contractors, has become the dominant player in fostering the shadowy but large-scale commercial market for tools known as exploits, which burrow into hidden computer vulnerabilities,” he wrote.

“In their most common use, exploits are critical but interchangeable components inside bigger programs. Those programs can steal financial account passwords, turn an iPhone into a listening device or, in the case of Stuxnet, sabotage a nuclear facility.”

Menn cited several defense contractors and government officials — many speaking on condition of anonymity — who admitted the increasingly dominant role the US government has in pursuing research on these exploits and using them to attack rival networks.

According to the report, “Reuters reviewed a product catalogue from one large contractor, which was made available on condition the vendor not be named. Scores of programs were listed. Among them was a means to turn any iPhone into a room-wide eavesdropping device. Another was a system for installing spyware on a printer or other device and moving that malware to a nearby computer via radio waves, even when the machines aren’t connected to anything.”

These contractors, he wrote, spend upwards of $100,000 on licensing single operations to governments, including the US. The result has been the development of a thriving industry, largely underground, where exploits are bought and sold before patches are developed to protect against intrusions. These “zero-day exploits”— labeled as such because developers are unaware of the flaw until it’s announced — fetch big bucks from contractors, governments and hackers.

And as the demand for these exploits increases, so do the players in the game. One example cited by Menn is Atlanta-based Endgame Inc., which recently brought in $23 million in funding courtesy of Silicon Valley venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. But as early as 2011, Endgame and similar entities have been on the radar of hacktivists hell-bent on exposing the largely unknown doings of defense contractors.

When the loose-knit hacking collective Anonymous investigated security consultants HBGary in 2011, they uncovered only the tip of an intricate iceberg made up of former federal employees and other intelligence workers being paid boatloads to give governments exploits that could be used to their advantage. Project PM, the open-source online think tank started by former Anonymous collaborator Barrett Brown, discussed Endgame and its associates in great detail.

From a Business Week article cited by Brown:

“Endgame executives will bring up maps of airports, parliament buildings and corporate offices. The executives then create a list of the computers running inside the facilities, including what software the computers run, and a menu of attacks that could work against those particular systems. Endgame weaponry comes customized by region — the Middle East, Russia, Latin America and China — with manuals, testing software and ‘demo instructions.’ There are even target packs for democratic countries in Europe and other US allies.”

Last year Brown was arrested on unrelated counts and remains in custody six months later with an eventual trial still a ways before him. The US government has since subpoenaed Internet host Cloudflare for records pertaining to Project PM, and has equated the website as a criminal enterprise.

“Project PM served as a forum through which defendant Brown and other individuals sought to discuss their joint and separate activities and engage in, encourage, or facilitate the commission of criminal conduct online,” the government alleged when it fought back attempts from the current Project PM administrator to quash that subpoena.

Brown fired back from prison: “It makes it much more obvious that this investigation and the charges against me has to do with our successful research into what may be criminal activities by firms close to the government.”

If convicted on all counts — more than one dozen including threatening a federal agent and sharing a hyperlink — Brown could be sentenced to 100 years in prison.

“It is virtually impossible to conclude that the obscenely excessive prosecution he now faces is unrelated to that journalism and his related activism,” Glenn Greenwald wrote earlier this year for The Guardian.

Meanwhile, Menn admitted that other investigative computer work — specifically discovering exploits like the one Endgame thrives off of — is an endeavor that discourages people outside of the government and defense industry from entertaining.

“Most companies, including Microsoft, Apple Inc. and Adobe Systems Inc, on principle won’t pay researchers who report flaws, saying they don’t want to encourage hackers,” he wrote. “Those that do offer ‘bounties,’ including Google Inc. and Facebook Inc., say they are hard-pressed to compete financially with defense-industry spending.”

Andrew Auernheimer, a 26-year-old independent security researcher, was recently sentenced to 41 months in prison for identifying and disclosing a harmless exploit on the servers of AT&T that allowed anyone with the know-how to collect the email addresses of thousands of Apple iPad users. After he was convicted, Auernheimer wrote for Wired that the selective prosecution of some security researchers will deter future hackers from ever disclosing exploits, even critical ones that effect national security.

“In an age of rampant cyber espionage and crackdowns on dissidents, the only ethical place to take your zero-day is to someone who will use it in the interests of social justice. And that’s not the vendor, the governments, or the corporations — it’s the individuals,” he wrote. “In a few cases, that individual might be a journalist who can facilitate the public shaming of a web application operator. However, in many cases the harm of disclosure to the un-patched masses (and the loss of the exploit’s potential as a tool against oppressive governments) greatly outweighs any benefit that comes from shaming vendors. In these cases, the antisec philosophy shines as morally superior and you shouldn’t disclose to anyone.”

Fred Burks: Principles of Personal Transformation

Fred BurksPrinciples of Personal Transformation

Fred Burks, WantToKnow.org

http://www.wanttoknow.info/transformation

Profound personal transformation is initiated by the realization that you are capable of direct access to the Divine. This is the realization that the wisdom of the Divine can be discovered deep within you. There is a wide range of means that can facilitate self-mastery through personal transformation. Though the means may vary, the intent behind the means is quite narrowly defined as the intent to expand into a state of integration whereby all aspects of your conscious self become increasingly aligned with your divine essence.

There are three particular life principles that help to align your perspective with the perspective of divine essence and thus inspire profound personal transformation. They are: 1) seeing the Divine in all; 2) nurturance of life; and 3) gratitude. When you apply these principles, a deeper meaning will be revealed to the seemingly random events of your life experience.

Seeing the Divine in All

This is the principle that the Divine is present and can be seen everywhere and in all manifestations of life. It is interwoven in all things like an intricate mosaic whose pieces adhere to the same wall, and are thus unified. However, it is not the picture that unifies the mosaic, but the wall upon which its pieces adhere. Similarly, the Divine paints a picture so diverse and seemingly unrelated that there appears to be no unification. Yet it is not the outward manifestations that unify. It is the inward center of divine energy that unifies all life.

Seeing the Divine in all is the principle that all manifestations of life convey an expression of All That Is. It does not matter how far the unifying energy has been distorted; the Divine can be observed. It is the action of perceiving unification even when the outward manifestations appear random, distorted, or chaotic. The principle of seeing the Divine in all is the perception that life is perfect in its expression because it flows from perfection, and that no matter how divergent its manifestations are, all life is an extension of the Divine.

In light of the obvious turmoil and destruction that are apparent on Earth, this is an outlook or perception that may seem naive. How can life in all its forms and expressions be perceived as optimal or perfect? This is the great paradox of life, and it cannot be reconciled with your mental or emotional capabilities. It can only be understood in the context of the soul, which is deathless, timeless, and limitless.

Calling forth the divine perceptions of the soul is actualized through looking for both the inward and outward manifestations of the Divine. It is not only that the Divine is found within you and within every individual manifestation of life; it is also in itself the wholeness of all life. Thus, this principle of transformation calls for seeing the Divine in all its diverse forms of manifestation, as well as in the wholeness of life itself.

Nurturance of Life

Life, in this definition, is an individual’s sovereign reality. It is subjective and impressionable. Life is the wholeness of experience flowing past the individual’s field of perception in the present moment. Nurturance of life is the principle whereby an individual is in alignment with the natural expansion of intelligence inherent within all life. This alignment enhances the life energy that flows past the individual with the clear intent of gentle support. It is the action of opening to the highest motive in all people and in all life and supporting the flow of this highest intention towards its ultimate expression. In so doing, the action is performed without judgment, analysis, or attachment to outcome. It involves simply nurturing the highest energy that flows from all people and thus supporting the fullest expression of their deepest essence.

This is a departure from the normal perception that nurturing support can only be granted when others are in alignment with your personal will and desires. When, instead, you view everything in your life as an integrated energy flowing as an expression of ever-expanding divine intelligence, all life is honored as an extension of the Divine. All people and all forms of life can be nurtured and supported to their highest expression.

Energy is an element of life that is so subtly interwoven with form that it is one, in much the same manner as space and time are inextricably linked in union. Life energy is always in a state of becoming. It is never static or regressive in its natural state. You are very capable of nurturing this natural expansion of energy to forge new channels of expression and experience.

There are many specific actions that can be taken to nurture life. Each soul can transform energy through a wide variety of means. Working through your body, your soul is able to collect and store energy and redirect its purpose or application. This transformation of energy can occur on both personal and universal levels of expression. That is, within an individual’s field of awareness at any time, energy can be transformed to conform more to a vision of personal welfare or aligned with a vision of universal welfare and goodwill.

One of the best methods to transform energy is through one’s belief system. All beliefs have energy systems that act like birthing chambers for the manifestation of your perceived reality. Within these energy systems are currents that direct life experience. Your soul is aware of these currents either consciously or unconsciously and allows them to carry you into realms of experience that engage your core belief system. By consciously cultivating beliefs that expand and transform energy, you are more able to explore energy systems that are nurturing to life in all its myriad forms. When beliefs are clearly defined as intentions, your life energy engages fully in the present moment.Clarity of intention is essential to engaging the energy system of your core beliefs, and to allowing the nurturance of life to prevail in all activities.

Gratitude

If you are aware – or at least interested in having the awareness – of how perfectly the Divine supports your sovereign reality, there is a powerful and natural sense of gratitude that flows from you to the Divine. It is this wellspring of gratitude that opens the channel of support from the Divine to the individual and establishes a collaboration of purpose to transform the individual soul into a pure expression of divine essence. It is principally gratitude that opens you to connection and alignment with your divine essence.

When you project gratitude, regardless of circumstance or condition, life becomes increasingly supportive. This feeling of gratitude coupled with the mental concept of appreciation is expressed like an invisible message in all directions and at all times. Gratitude is an essential facet of love that opens you to redefine your purpose as a supportive extension of the Divine, rather than the whimsical outreach of fate or the exacting reaction of a mechanical, detached universe. Establishing a relationship with the universe through the outflow of gratitude also attracts life experience that is deeply transformative – experience that is richly devoted to uncovering life’s deepest meaning and most formative purpose.

When you choose to align with divine essence and to live from this perspective as part of an ever-unfolding reality, you attract a natural state of harmony. This does not mean that your life is without problems or discomforts; rather it signifies a perception that there is an integral purpose in what life reveals. Life experience becomes meaningful to the extent that you choose to live in natural harmony with divine essence. When your personal reality flows in alignment with divine essence, you create lasting joy and inner peace.

It is the perspective of divine essence that all life is pure love in its fullest expression, and that in this single concept, all life is conceived and forever exists. This becomes the core belief from which all other beliefs arise. And as these beliefs expand outward, this core belief system emerges with a clear intent of supporting a fundamental perspective of seeing, nurturing, and appreciating the universe as the divine cradle from which all life is created and evolves.

These life principles are merely symbols represented in words and served to you as a potential recipe to stir awake the embers of light that tirelessly burn within. There are no specific techniques or rituals that are required to invoke their power. They are simply perspectives. In a real sense, they are intentions that attract experience that expands consciousness. They do not provide quick fixes or instant realizations. They are amplifiers of personal will and intention that clarify how one lives. Their profound transformative power is contained exclusively in the intent of their application.

Through these principles of transformation, you can become a master of empowering your deeper self. When you apply these principles with clear intent, you have the tools to accelerate the emergence of divine essence. You can awaken the perspective, insights, and empowered abilities of your divine essence to create new realms of possibility and shape them as learning adventures that expand and transform your consciousness. This is the underlying purpose of these principles, and perhaps the best reason to explore them.

Dear friends, this message is most commendable in that it centers on the highest or, if you like, the deepest form of meditation intended for this age and time.
