Re: Strange Money #4 : Autosurf

Hi: I'm laughing at a memory you jogged... ========================================== I ran this through my BS filter and got the translation... ========================================== I usually try to keep my clients in the spotlight, not me... but now and then it's ended up on me. I've been featured in the New York Times, a radio show and a few things like that. Usually, after one of those, I'll get a couple of people contact me for "an interview" I remember one person asking me "Ms Caroll, with your experience, what do you think is the one thing that the Internet still needs most?" So I said "The one thing the Internet needs most? A BS detector. It would sit in your taskbar and flash like a railway light when it detects BS. But then, it would be blinking like crazy so much that it would make it hard to read the screen and we'd all develop eyestrain and need sunglasses just to surf the net. And then someone would find a way to build in a downline or a compensation plan that would end up corrupting the original creator and of course our adbuster software would flag IT as a menace because it's connecting to the Internet - so - forget it... that wouldn't work. " It was tongue in cheek, of course. They didn't print the article, of course. lol You asked me, once, why there's so few interviews with me out there. 'Cause most people don't have the parts to let me speak unfettered and wouldn't print it if they did. But - I wouldn't make the BS meter go off. Heh. LOL : ) Linda

Howdy Linda, fellow forumites, lurkers out there in etherland, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Did I acknowledge everybody? Good. Coz this message is for one and all... I reckon if there was a BS meter, maybe in the Google algorithms, then about two-thirds of the useless junk on the net would be wiped off it immediately. What a relief that would be! Then we could save bandwidth, irrelevant and meaningless searches and all these rotten scams that get so much attention. It seems to be getting more and more difficult to find the good stuff because everything is packed out and padded with so much garbage. Like finding the proverbial needle in the haystack. More junk sites go up - two haystacks, then three and so on. Keep searching. Yeah, I can rant with the best of them! Gary Simpson PS: Linda, the interview we did was indeed unfettered and is being picked up by quite a few sites when I checked last. The truth is out there. You just gotta find it.

Arthur, Your routine sounds exactly like what I wasted (yes, wasted!) three months doing in the summer of 2004. It made me think I was doing something productive, but I was deceiving myself, and I fear that you are, too. What finally made me stop was my computer refusing to run anymore with all the spyware it was collecting. I had fair warning; I had been having to run Ad-Aware and Spybot two or three times a day to keep it running. One day it just went on strike! If you will spend your time on legitimate promotion techniques, you'll have better results. Sure, you may get traffic this way, but what good is traffic without sales? I doubt that I'll be able to sway you, since you've been told the same thing before. Still, I hope to do my bit by saying 'been there, done that, gave it a good test run, it doesn't work.' Not only does it not work...it's dangerous! Cheri

Cheri, Thank you for the advice. You are 100% correct in everything you say. I have trimmed down the number of sites I am using to the ones I surf for money. All of the others I was testing pages on take up too much time that can be better spent elsewhere. I haven't had the problem with spyware. I do try to stay well protected and do daily checks. The biggest problem recently is trojan viruses. I have not been infected but I have received email from the admin of three auto-surf sites this week telling of trojan viruses on sites they have had to delete. Again I keep the virus software running and do frequent scans. Linda, I belive you started this forum knowing exactly what you would uncover. As usual you are educating your friends and we love you for this. What have we learned? If you are selling a product the ROI is nil. 9000 hits = 0 sales ( Arild says it builds his downline so it sounds like it works for MLM) It is dangerous for your computer. Some people steal your money.:-0 It will use up your bandwidth and shut your site down or cost you money. Have I missed any other reasons?

Linda, As a "newbie", I really appreciate this forum. I'm trying to figure out what's legit and what isn't. And of course, I'm also trying to be cost effective with promoting my site.
