Hello
Amanda's answer makes good sense. Let me add a couple of thoughts to it.
First, the reason Sarah Palin (and her family) was hit so hard was because she was seen as a threat to Obama's campaign. Do you remember those first days after she was announced as McCain's running mate? Here came a very attractive, strong and relatively young woman who made the polls jump up in McCain's favor. She was a good choice because, just as Obama appealed to the female voter, she appealed to the male voter.
It scared the Democrats and the mudslinging began, not just by the Democrats but also by the liberal media who blatantly and shamelessly campaigned for Obama. Do you recall the Palin interview with Katie Couric? I detested Katie from that moment on. Her posture alone was sickening and openly revealed her bias.
If Palin had been Democrat and chosen as Obama's running mate, Katie's interview with Palin would have been completely different. For starters, Palin would have been either not asked some of the questions she was asked or she would have been given the questions in advance to prepare for the interview or both. Alas, the news media doesn't play fair. It should teach Palin and others not to trust the liberal media and to tell the media how the interview was going to be ...or no interview.
Another thing is that in the criticism of Palin's knowledge or lack of it, it was not mentioned, that I heard, that one cannot possibly know everything but everyone with a reasonable IQ is capable of learning it quickly. Not only that, no president relies totally on what he alone knows. This was conveniently overlooked.
As for Palin's family, it was completely unfair to attack them because they were NOT the ones being elected. Bristol's pregnancy had nothing to do with Sarah Palin being a running mate or even a Vice President. Bristol was not the one being elected to anything. Didn't the Democrats tell us that Bill Clinton's private life was none of our business?
(As an aside, I disagree in Bill Clinton's case because if a man does what he did to those whom he loved and cared about the most, what is he going to do the rest of us for whom he has less affection? Screw us, of course, the same or worse than he did to Monica and above all his own family ....but then that is not the subject of this email.)
Back to Palin, there were even a few Democrats who spoke out against the way Palin was treated by other Democrats and the media. The article I read had a quote in it by a controversial movie star whose name I cannot remember. What this person said is that taking such brutal action against Palin made the Democrats look bad ...AND IT DID! It is one of the main reasons I would never entertain the Democrat party although there are others such as their New Age stance and many of their ridiculous conspiracy theories.
We have an equivalent political party in Canada called the New Democrat Party or NDP. I refer to them as the New Death Party. They first wanted abortion and then they were for euthanasia. It is just like the US Democrats. You have to wonder who they want killed off next.
